Digital account, Zero balance with UPI account

Hello ,

One of my friend will be back India.
He doesn't have any account with UPI.

So he wants to open an account digitally and want to avail UPI.

Please suggest.
Also without much calls from Banker or agent

for digital opening he needs to have aadhaar linked to active phone number and physical pan card.

yes 811 is no1 as far as zero charges are considered with stable app and services. (if virtual dc is taken. physical is chargeable)

you have other accounts which may be considered with debit card charges

811 will be active within few hours when opened on bank working days and successful video kyc. Still would suggest to try mapping it to upi apps after 24-48hrs.

Kotak 811 , SBI , BoB ( new consumers they are not allowing app usage. Not sure if anything has changed recently). If u are going with Kotak 811. Then make sure u activate dnd immediately as they will call you for credit card ltf offers after few days.

I would vote for INDIE. You may initially get one or two calls but after that they didn't bother at all. Also zero markup, and pretty much zero charges.

BoB ( new consumers they are not allowing app usage. Not sure if anything has changed recently).

There has been a massive fiasco surrounding the BoB World app.

Bank staff had targets to meet for getting some party bonuses and stuff, so they added their numbers to accounts that didn't have linked numbers, and also took SIM cards of customers with feature phones to activate the app on their own phones.

RBI ordered a block of new onboarding.

I did a bit study. few important things

-mobile app only bank - to avoid. (browser access must)
-Digital / online account opening is needed.
- Physical card option should be available.

Will prefer kotak 811, AU , Equitas(initial debit limit BIG negative), fed selfie, bob lite(app issue) (Indusind Indie most likely app only banking)

HDFC app is poor and they dont have zero balance account.
IDFC I think pratham account not possible to open easily
