šŸ“¢ Need Guidance on Filing Complaint with RBI Ombudsman (NSDL Payments Bank Account Closure Issue)

Hello everyone,

I had submitted a request to close my NSDL Payments Bank account about a month ago by emailing all relevant documents (account closure form, PAN card with signature, alternate bank account passbook, etc.) to their official support emails: care@nsdlbank.co.in, nodalofficer@nsdlbank.co.in, and digihelpdesk@nsdlbank.co.in, and also raise closure request through their app.

Despite also sending a follow-up reminder recently, I’ve received no acknowledgment or resolution. It’s now nearly a full month without any response.

I’m planning to escalate this issue to the RBI Ombudsman and need guidance on the following:
  1. I read online that as per RBI regulations, if a bank fails to resolve a grievance within 7 working days, the customer may be entitled to compensation (e.g., ₹100 per day). Can anyone confirm if this rule applies to account closure delays for payments banks like NSDL?
  2. In the RBI CMS portal complaint form, there is a section:
    • ā€œCompensation sought for dispute, if any (in Rupees)ā€
    • Also, another section mentions harassment or mental distress.
My questions:
āœ… Should I enter the calculated compensation (e.g., ₹100/day after 7 working days) in that first section?
āœ… Or should it go under the ā€œHarassment compensationā€ section?
āœ… How exactly should I calculate the amount — only count working days beyond T+7? Or is it okay to mention a round figure like ₹10,000 or ₹1 lakh based on delay and mental stress?

Any clarity on these RBI rules and how to present my claim properly in the complaint will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance šŸ™

My questions:
āœ… Should I enter the calculated compensation (e.g., ₹100/day after 7 working days) in that first section?
No, that's only for cases where there is a disputed amount. Since no money is involved in closing the account, you don't need to enter anything.

āœ… Or should it go under the ā€œHarassment compensationā€ section?
Yes, it will go here (if you want it)

Rest queries can be answered by others, as I’ve never had to involve RBIO in any case, so I can’t say for sure.
