Received 1% reward point instead of 5% for a transaction made on Amazon with the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card

On 31st May 2025, I did a transaction of ₹1,103 on Amazon with my Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card. When the transaction was settled today, I was stunned to notice that instead of showing a reward point of ₹55 (5% of ₹1,103), it is showing a reward point of ₹11 instead, which is about 1% of the transacted amount.

As per Amazon, it should have been ₹55 for obvious reasons:

Apparently, ICICI's server didn't sync the reward rate with the Merchant ID, which resulted in this error. However, all the transactions done before have no error with their respective reward points whatsoever.

The monthly statement would generate tomorrow, so I'll see whether they would fix this issue or not, but my hopes are less though.

Just wanna ask fellow APay cardholders, has it ever happened with you? If it did, did they provide the differential cashback amount? If so, how?

The statement was generated today, and expectedly, even that shows 1% reward rate instead of 5%.

I'll raise a complaint with ICICI Bank, however my hopes are less, since the last time I've had a similar issue with my Coral RuPay credit card, they refused to issue the missing reward points.

Collateral damage it seems.

In one small wallet load (via tomato) I also got 1% instead of 2% usual. Eagerly waiting to see what they give this time (direct load). 1 (bad luck) or 2 (usual) or 5 (unlikely).

Today, I sent an email to their customer care (help.amazonpaycc@icicibank.com) in the morning, and received a reply from them just now.

Reading their reply really boils my blood! Here's what they replied:
Dear Mr. XXXXX,

We understand that you wish to know the reward points available as on Month Date, Year.

You can check your reward point balance and redeem the same on Retail Internet Banking and iMobile through the below path:

Internet Banking:

? Cards & Loans > Credit Card > Reward Points

? Cards & Loans > Redeem Reward Points > Reward Points

? Quick Links > Customized Links > Reward Points

iMobile application:

? Cards & Forex > Select Card > Reward Points/Redeem Now.

The customer care executive didn't even bother to read the query, let alone comprehend it. And what's even funnier is, he copied from his template verbatim without even bothering to edit the details (Like "...available as on Month Date, Year"). 🤣

This is not the first time. My experience with ICICI Bank and most other Indian companies have been like this. For example:
Me: "What is the capital of India?"
Indian company's Customer Care agent: "Venus is the second planet from the Sun and is often called Earth's "sister planet" because of its similar size and composition. However, it has a thick, toxic atmosphere made mostly of carbon dioxide, with clouds of sulfuric acid, making it the hottest planet in the solar system.
