what is lounge access in credit card? how many of you have benefited?

i have never travelled in flights so far. many credit cards for me offering lounge access. what is the us how it will be useful?
how to do benifited earlier using credit cards. some one says lounge is free if flight delays?

Longue is useful if you need to be at airport for a few hours (reached early/flight has multiple legs
Most longues offer free food (select few have free alchol), WiFi/internet access, recliners/etc. Some also have other facilities like showers, bars, etc
