State Bank of India revised their debit card fees effective from 1st April, 2024.
No communication received from bank regarding revision of charges. Just have been updated on their website.

The minimum debit card fee was Rs. 125 + GST. Now it’s Rs. 200 + GST, a 60% increase.
They have raised each debit card fee by Rs. 75.

As per the RBI's latest guidelines, banks must send notice/communication to their customers 30 days prior to any product feature-related changes. However, in this case, State Bank of India didn’t follow RBI guidelines. Will RBI take this matter seriously and penalize SBI and set an example? I don’t think it’s going to happen. The RBI just closes their eyes when it comes to SBI.

SBI has discontinued new Electronic Debit cards in OD accounts in compliance with RBI instructions.

Existing Electronic Debit Cards in Overdraft Account-

a) Electronic Cards issued until April 20, 2022, will remain valid until their expiry date and
will not be renewed thereafter.
b) All Electronic Debit Cards issued after April 21, 2022, will be permanently blocked from
the backend. Customers with Registered Mobile Numbers (RMN) in CIF will be informed
via SMS before the cards are blocked. Branches should appropriately advise customers in
this regard.

I had initially applied for physical debit card last week and was not aware of this increase in charges. I can view card details from yesterday. I see virtual debit card is free from any annual charges so applied it as well.
I requested for card closure to customer care which they closed but they saying that even if card is activated for 1 day I would still be charged with AMC next year for this physical card.
Earlier other customer care executive said it won't be charged but now they are saying it will be still charged.
Will I be still charged with AMC 2nd year for my debit card if it was issued for first time and was only activated for 1 day?

Issuance charges will be levied and no AMC for blocked cards.
