Axis Bank sending notice for clarification regarding customer's travel spends on atlas

Axis Bank today sent notices to many of its Atlas credit card customers requesting clarification and invoices regarding their "travel category spends". Axis Atlas is a travel-focused credit card, so it's surprising that the bank is asking for invoices and clarification for travel category expenses over the past few months. A few days ago, Axis Bank deducted Edge Miles and Edge Reward Points from some customers' reward accounts, citing business transactions. Now, they are requesting clarification on affected customers' travel spends within the next 30 days, otherwise, the bank will cancel their credit cards.

Here, I'm attaching a copy of the notice email:

Many genuine Atlas customers have been affected by this move. Some people just spent under 10k on travel categories and received clarification notices. I can understand Axis's desire to eliminate abusers from their customer list, but troubling genuine customers is unacceptable. This is the main reason I didn't add the Axis Magnus Burgundy credit card/Axis Magnus credit card to our list of the best credit cards for 2024. While it may offer good rewards, it's not reliable at all. Axis should revert to their old credit card reward system as they are not capable of running a reward system with airmiles transfer partners.
For peace of mind, stay away from Axis Bank credit cards.

I spoke to their customer care officer. She seemed annoyed with their backend team and asked time until tomorrow evening to sort things out as they themselves haven't received any information about the same from their backend team and the email has been most likely been sent to all Atlas card users!
Hopefully, it gets sorted sooner!
Hahaha typically Axis 🤣

Not to every user. I have two atlas in my home. Have used one for small amount of rotation, uspe koi notice nahi aaya. Got on the other one where all transactions are genuine (ofc including Intermiles , but that's not my fault that they tag an incorrect mcc)
So what’s up with the intermiles thing? Kya trick thi aisi jo sabko le dubi?

Mene email ke link pe submit kiya saare invoices but koi acknowledgement mail to nehi ayya. Did you email them separately ?

Everyone is behaving like there is economic crisis in the country

Thanks to the steps being taken by RBI/IT Dept - all these banks are NOW tightening their lax approach in controls.

It is good for overall CC industry. Business CC category will grow now. CC users will seriously consider taking business cards for non-personal expenses. A sort of enforcing discipline.

The next step must be the mismanagement of MCCs.

If you look closely, rotations may not be always a MS. Like if you pay bill of a credit product with another product, it is still a personal expense and it is the merchant/platform who is allowing so. Although this should be prohibited but again this a debatable topic indeed. If someone does multiple mobile bookings with their card, that can be a classic example of MS/Rotation/Business Spends.

Also bank may now have to explicitly outline the actual definition of personal expenses and members with blood relation are supposed to be only covered in this.

RBI already put a notice yesterday in this regard.

I don't agree ..
In a country where banks are short by 100 billion dollar loan to msme ..
Tight grip on cc won't help ..
Already its too herrndious to take loan for small business ppl .
Then gov says we promote msme.
Post 2017 loan scam .banks are gone into shells & lending is like negligible

You are missing the point.

No one is against genuine loans to SMEs or MSMEs. If you see the statistics, they have multiplied manifold in the last 5-10 years.

RBI/ITD is trying to implement already existing rules - use business cards for business purposes and personal cards for personal uses.
Simple. No rocket science.

This is only the beginning. ITD is using All Around Surveillance and AI to plug many such loopholes. More to come....
