Amex Plat Travel - No Retention Benefits Offered - July 2025

My Platnium Travel card has come up for renewal and accordingly Amex has charged the annual fee in tbr latest statement.

For the longest time I've seen people talk about the different kinds of offers they received when they called up Amex and ask for waiver.

So I called them up today and asked if they could give me an offer too. Do note I have Platinum and Gold charge cards besides the Travel card.

They flatly, although politely, refused to give me any offer. They say that such an offer is not available for my profile. I really do not want to pay the full fee, even though it's a very beneficial card, having just doled out almost 78k a few months ago for the charge card.

Has anybody else faced this? Were you able to talk with them and get them change their decision and give you an offer?

Would appreciate any inputs.

I understand your concern regarding the renewal offer. I would like to share that the benefits that this card carry certainly outweigh the fee. To give you the unique card benefits, offers and promotions, American Express charge a nominal membership fee. I am afraid as there are no such offers running". What should I do?

I had the renewal on Platinum Charge last month. Called up and was offered 50% cut on the annual fee. No other options. I was looking at paying the full fee for 10000 MR points but was told that offer is not available on my profile. So took the 50% off offer.

I was offered either
fee reversal on spends of 1.5L in 90days
or 50% fee waiver.

I called back and asked for a better deal and they offered 2 more options
1. Pay annual fees and get 10000 points or
2. Pay 20000 reward points for annual fee waiver.

I went for 50% fee waiver.

Spend 1.5 lacs is the best deal, because anyway you need to hit the target of 4 lacs, to get 48000 points

Those were the exact sentences they read out to me.

I've just read on twitter that effective July renewal offers have been put on hold. Unverified information although it turned out to be true in my case.

Earlier it was costing Amex. Imagine people closing the cards and opening cards on referrals, repeating same within families and friends. Full Exploitation. But removing totally will dent. Some thing should have done via mutual gain, but that didn't happen.

MRCC will be worst hit as Gyftr has more convenience fees now on Amazon Pay and no renewal benefits with 4500 fees.

It's better to transfer the MRCC credit limit to any existing Amex and close the card.

For me MRCC is the best as my renewal fee is 1.5k ... lucky me !! 😉
and also it is much easier to achieve 1.5L target or even 90k target for annual fee waiver / discount...

Yeah, but spending on Amex card is a headache. Managing Plat Travel for 4L spends itself is tough due to acceptability issues.

And on top of that Amazon Pay on Gyftr is chargeable and hitting 20K again like this , we need to have good use cases.

Yes Amex MRCC has a product benefit of 4500 RF, but if we spend 90K-150K RF will be 50% or 150K Spends will be Free renewal.

Hope they don't change the product benefit.

I dont know about this product benefit..

But
what I got is:
My RF is
Rs 1,500 - for spends less than 90K.
Rs 750 - for spends between 90k and 1.49L
Free - for spends over 1.5L...

I also called Amex this week and they told me no offers. I hold both Plat travel & Plat charge.

I canceled my Plat Travel, which took less than 2 mins on phone.

I think whoever applied before that cut off date before the new fee structure came got 1.5k annual fee just like @Adith ( through referral ) ...
