Amex Plat Travel - No Retention Benefits Offered - July 2025

My Platnium Travel card has come up for renewal and accordingly Amex has charged the annual fee in tbr latest statement.

For the longest time I've seen people talk about the different kinds of offers they received when they called up Amex and ask for waiver.

So I called them up today and asked if they could give me an offer too. Do note I have Platinum and Gold charge cards besides the Travel card.

They flatly, although politely, refused to give me any offer. They say that such an offer is not available for my profile. I really do not want to pay the full fee, even though it's a very beneficial card, having just doled out almost 78k a few months ago for the charge card.

Has anybody else faced this? Were you able to talk with them and get them change their decision and give you an offer?

Would appreciate any inputs.

Those were the exact sentences they read out to me.

I've just read on twitter that effective July renewal offers have been put on hold. Unverified information although it turned out to be true in my case.

Customer care said on Chat that I will get 50% discount on my renewal fee or a target spend based offer, which can be found out only one month before renewal

I got one few weeks back. 1.5 lac spend within 90 days for full fee waiver.

When I tried to close last month i was been offered 50% waiver or spend based waiver which I declined both. I was charged annual fees which they adjusted in closure
As this was the onky amex card they offered me to apply mrcc with 1k fyf
Got and activated the card but not used from 2 months.

I already had my doubts about this card, if I dont get any waiver I will just close this card. I will stick to mrcc + gold then. Already got fee waiver for mrcc

If you have another card and MR's account is linked between these cards then points won't expire if the other card is still active

The target spend (within 90 days) to waive of the renewal fee could be anywhere between 1.5 to 2.5 lakhs.
This is the best option..

Options normally given Platinum travel renewal --
1) 50% discount, pay 2950.
2) Pay full 5900 renewal fee and get 10000 points.
3) Pay 10000 points and avoid paying renewal fee of 5900
4) Spend 1.5 to 2.5 lakhs within 90 days and get a refund of 5900 renewal fee

Option 4 is the best

That's amazing.

So it's not true that there's some new policy. It's just that they seem to have individual profile based offers.

That's actually good news for most people who still hold the card.
