In this thread, I am going to write why you should get axis reserve even if you're holding axis, Magnus. This applies to you if
1L of spending on Magnus is getting covered by rent, utilities, insurance, etc itself.
I will explain how reserve will be more beneficial for over 1L spends as compared to Magnus and how it justifies its 59,000rs annual fees.
The main purpose is how we can cover 59,000 rs, so let's start.

For this, we will consider 1 reward point = 0.8 miles = 0.8rs. So from now on 1reward point=0.8rs.
Base reward points - Magnus vs reserve
Magnus - 6/100rs = 4.8miles/100 = 4.8 (rs/%)
Reserve - 7.5/100rs = 6miles/100 = 6 (rs/%)

So essentially we get a difference of 1.2rs per 100 Rs spent.
For gyftr reward multiplier it becomes.
  • 5x - 6rs/100
  • 10x - 12rs/100

Remaining - 59,000 Rs
40k miles yearly bonus

Remaining 19,000 Rs

Shopping on myntra for 50k/year via gyftr voucher(10x)
Additional reward earned - 12*500 = 6000

Remaining 13,000 Rs

Shopping on amazon(electronics, etc) for 80k/year via gyftr voucher(5x)
Additional reward earned - 8*500 = 4000

Remaining 9,000 Rs

Grocery via swigyy-instamart/spencer 30k/year via gyft (5x)
Additional reward earned - 6*300 = 1800

Remaining 7800 Rs

Dining vouchers via gyftr (10x) - 30k/yr
Additional reward earned - 12*300 = 3600

Remaining 4200 Rs
Travel vouchers via gyftr(10x) - 35k/year
Additional reward earned - 12*350 = 4200

Remaining 0 Rs

Over and above we get the following benefits.

  1. Accor 2 nights + 4person buffet - 12k rs approx
  2. Airport transfer 4/yr - 4k rs approx
  3. Additional 10k pts/month on grabdeal. Spending 3200 for shopping on marks and spencer (45x) will get you this.
  4. 6% return instead of 4.8% on other pos/online purchases.
  5. 10% return on international spends.
  6. Additional BMS benefit. - Very less additional benefit.
  7. ITC/Mariott membership - If required in worst case.
Hence taking reserve can be very beneficial in certain cases over and above magnus.

If you are comparing to Magnus why are you adding Gyftr and GrabDeals as "value".

Both cards have it, at the same rate with the same limit except the base reward is 15 ER instead of 12.
  • So you get 20% more bonus miles on Gyftr but even yearly on your example spends that would net you only 10k-15k extra points a YEAR which is a drop of water compared to the 384k points you get solely from Magnus milestone.
  • Lower spends on GrabDeals before you hit the limit so ie M&S x45 would be reached with 3k instead of 3.7k spends. That would be ~INR8.4k "savings" in a perfect case scenario if you can exactly spend that but most people will go slightly above or below that amount as it isn't worth it limiting your selection of clothes just to reach a very specific bill amount. You can be efficient or well dressed but it's hard to do both. On other offers you can probably get also more organic spending to reach the 10k limit without forcing yourself to spend on unnecessary or unwanted stuff.
While it's not a worthless card, it's still hard to justify it if you hold a Magnus, specially at 50k+ compared to a 10k card.

Is it worth it to take Reserve over Magnus? No.
Is it worth to take Reserve on top of Magnus? For +99% of the people, no.

The benefits you get from getting Reserve after spending 12L a year on Magnus (if you can afford that) are still there but they're greatly diminished. Can you get the value out of the joining fee? Likely but is it truly worth it? It will depend on case by case basis but for 99% of the people out there it doesn't make sense neither its affordable for them.

Even if you have huge spends of several lakh a month the difference in points you'll be getting on top of the existing value still makes it hard to justify the fee and having another card.
The only good deal would be having humongous spends overseas at 30ER for every INR200.
Even spending 10L a year overseas on Reserve will still only net you 75k extra points a year.

And if you value the kind of benefits you've put in the numbered list at that price point you might be better off getting an Amex Plat for that sort of benefits with similar welcome bonus with the only caveat of Amex being a one time 100k MR points or 45k Taj hotel vouchers, but on yearly renewal I see people getting retention offers that are good which paired with gift vouchers/Taj vouchers given on birthday month might make it a decent deal to keep around.

To summarize: if miles is the game, just get your family hooked on Magnus cards.

Yes taking reserve over and above Magnus if your spends are that much. Magnus is a way superior card compared to reserve. It's difficult getting a second Magnus, since it requires a certain income requirement which is difficult to show for other family members.

Someone literally answered the same question before yours.

Capisce?
Hi

Yes I literally asked because two people have a difference of opinion here.
And with axis you can never entirely rely on the t&c.

The author who has written this in great detail mentioned 10k for separate cards. Somebody else replied that its 10k per customer across cards.

I was hoping that someone who’s had first-hand experience might clarify and not just base it on t&c.
I found your literal comment and the big red font in bold a bit rude. I believe the same could have been said kindly as well.

We all have questions here and love to help out people. Won’t be nice if we snub someone who’s asking a genuine question and seeking clarity. This is what this forum is intended for.

I appreciate and respect you a lot for all the detailed information you provide for us fellow members. I hope I didn’t offend you in any way and look forward to interacting with you on this forum.

Thanks and take care!
