Which Debit Card to use for Credit Card Bill Payment in July 2025

Merchant was www.phonepe.com and I've been getting RPs for this merchant but for this transaction, I didn't get any reward points.

xxxxx is the OTP for your transaction with phonepe for INR xxx.00 using IDFC FIRST Bank debit card ending xxxx. Validity: 5 minutes. Please do not share. To raise a dispute, call 1800 10 888.

Surprisingly sms came with phonepe and on web merchant name was www.phonepe.com which is exactly same as my previous transaction with reward points. Only thing different here is after the transaction, the category on idfc app shows "services" instead of "home expenses" which was shown in my previous 4-5 transactions.

Anybody else faced the same?

Pls suggest here..I am always getting incorrect merchant. This is first time I am trying..visa Dc was already added. Tried clearing cache too. Is it because of big amount or something else? Tried different manual amount too ..
 
Summary of my experience with PhonePe and IDFC over last 3-4 days. Thanks @HumorSimpson for the effort to keep the post updated. Just adding on only a little bit:

Payment Gateway (That has worked for me):
The U symbol (I think its PayU)

OTP Merchants - Getting RPs (on IDFC Visa):
PhonePe Priv
www.phonepe
phonepe

OTP Merchants - No RPs (on IDFC Visa):
All Caps (any variation)
PHONEPEPRI
PhonePe Pv

PhonePe w IDFC Rupay: I have tried over multiple days and I have not had success with getting RPs

Other Dos and Donts:
  • OTP merchants getting RPs is usually for payments <10k (10060 incl. fee). For larger amts its possible but success rate is lower than 10k or lower.
  • Do not attempt same amount twice on the same day. You can pay 10k and then 9999.99, 9999.98 and so on.
  • Give time between txns if possible. I have had most success doing transactions in pairs of 2. E.g.: 10k followed by 9999.99 and then wait an hour or 2. Then try another set of 2.
  • If you do too many cancelled txns in a row, IDFC might block you for the day. Most success for me has been try thrice for a txn. If not getting the correct merchant, wait ~30 mins.
 
If i pay Axis CC on axis bill payment website through I D F C 1st 🚰 rupay. I am getting merchant AXISBANKAC is it eligible for points can someone confirm this please?
