You can mark as solution only if you created a new thread as a question which is not default and is usually hidden on a small screen. Please see the screenshots at...

If you can't the best answer option, then you haven't created the thread as a question. You might have asked a question as a generic discussion which is the default. Again, see the screenshots mentioned in the above post.

I request the @mods to keep the "question" as the default instead of the discussion, as this query is raised by new people from time to time.

For Question thread --> Solution
For Discussion thread --> Best Answer

mmm. Since, I haven't asked my query in a separate thread in a while, I don't remember how it works / worked, either.

Edit: Just came across my question at...

Question => Best Answer.

Edit 2:

Discussion => Best Answer.

My another thread I am sure that I created as a discussion.

Edit 3: When I create a question, I see an option for others to upvote which is missing in a discussion. That's the main difference I see.

Does the following screenshot help you?

Edit: Thanks to @Sachin2008 I went on and marked best answers for my discussions as well. Earlier, I thought the "best answer" exists only for questions. I was wrong.
