Pro Tips to Make a SBI Card Life Time Free

Pro Tips-

Simple way to make Any basic to mid range SBI card LTF is to "Just raise a closure of card account request through Sbi card app .After few hours you will receive a call to ask a reason for cancellation ,there tell them Either make it Life time free or cancel the card. They will make your Card LTF.Done on my both sbi card and now both are LTF.Service request to make your card LTF is taken as PCT id is to be changed. You can check in service request tracking menu.

Caution:-If you holding multiple cards of SBI then kindly do this process at one card at a time only.Do on other card after at least month. If at any point SBI Card is not agreeing on LTF and offering you Annual Fee waivers only then Accept Fee waivers at that moment and Apply the same trick Again after 1 or 2 months for LTF.
IF ANYONE HAVING ANY SPECEFIC CONCERN THEN DO DM.

Edit 1-If afterall anyone missed the call from retention team then they can simply call customer care and there simply tell them to connect/transfer you call to retention team as i want to discuss regarding my card closure request. They will connect you to their retention team and now there you can project the above trick to get your card LTF ..

Edit 2(09 July 2023)-Even people have made sbi cards having fee upto 1499 LTF and even higher varriant cards you will get equivalent reward points or miles or annual fee waiver in place of LTF.

Edit 3(15 October 2023)- Even people have made their SBI cashback credit card LTF by their skill of negotiation.

Edit 4-Now a days SBI Cards sometime, closing the card without calling so suggest now dont place request through app by self .Call customer care directly and ask them for LTF/fee waivers or to transfer the call to retention team for doing the same.

I tried to make my wife's SimplyClick card as LTF by asking for card closure, she put me on hold for 30sec & then asked that can she proceed for card closure...I wasn't prepared for this, so I asked isn't there any LTF offer for the card, so which again she checked for few seconds & said no such offer available as of now.
Then I asked her the procedure for card closure & hung the call.

Now my doubt is that had I agreed to proceed with card closure, would she have connected me to retention team/ I'd have received call from retention team or simply my card would've been closed ??

I have simplySave rupay which i got in march 2024, spent 1 lacs so got renewal fees back. Sent email in may to customer care for ltf conversion, they denied. Again sent email this month, they denied again. So sent a strong worded email stating my relationship and bla bla... but didn't said a word about card closeure only said that i might reconsider using the card. In few days saw a service request about something "active/inactive" in app, i thought they are closing my card so i did a transaction of 1k for safe side. Again after 1 or 2 days saw another service request of "card related PTC id to be Changed". no call from retention team (they might have called, but i rejected all customer care calls as was annoyed by axis and icici for cc offers). Confirmed LTF status bu email. Thats how i got my card converted to LTF. Thanks to TF community. Now only hdfc millenia left.

Nowadays CC is directly closing without transferring to retention team. On 13th July, I called CC to check for LTF offer for my Simply Click, as usual no offer for me, then I asked to convert to IRCTC Plat which was again denied. Then I asked for closure, the guy told me to hold until call gets connected with Retention team, but due to Sunday team was not available. So the CC folk himself closed the card right in the call and I got sms and emails while still being on call. However I didn't loose anything bcoz my CC was due for renewal in Aug and I was able to close it before any fee being incurred and I will apply for IRCTC separately.
But this again marks a red flag where CC folks are nowadays closing CC on request over call only without any intervention from retention team.
