TF Legend
My friend is a central government employee who has now been enrolled under the National Pension Scheme (NPS). As h no longer wish to continue with my Provident Fund (PF) account, he has been attempting to withdraw the balance available in it.

Previously, he submitted a withdrawal request for ₹90,000, but only ₹45,000 was sanctioned. Later, applied for ₹40,000, and only ₹1,500 was approved. These repeated partial approvals have caused confusion and inconvenience. Anyone please help me with the following

1. Is there any restriction on the number of times PF withdrawals can be made after transitioning to NPS?
2. Are there specific rules or maximum limits (as a percentage or amount) for partial withdrawals from PF in such cases?
3. What are the eligibility criteria and process for full and final settlement of the PF account for government employees who have moved to NPS?

Are you talking about PF as in the GPF that was earlier applicable to Central Govt employees before NPS or EPFO PF applicable for all employees of all other organisations under the EPF&MP Act.

It's for my friend. He already has two pf account when he was working in a private firm. Now working in central government. So they have NPS system.

There is a maximum 50-90% limit with conditions of purpose of withdrawl that can be land purchase (75%), marriage(50%) to critical illness (90%).

These days PF withdrawl are rejected for no reason or every less amt is given except when it is being taken for critical illness.

And you can not force the employer until unless you leave the job itself or take VRS.

Pvt firm implies EPFO PF. For EPFO PF, there is unique UAN for every PAN. In case there are multiple PF accounts under the same UAN, first the earlier PF account balance would have to be transferred to the newer PF account. For this, online option is available. For this, it needs to be ensured that the earlier employer had duly marked "exit" of the employee from their organisation in EPFO portal.
Once all balance has been transferred to the latest PF account, it should be ensured that the concerned employer has also marked "exit" of thee employee in EPFO portal. Then, a final withdrawal request has to be submitted to EPFO. For this, first a certificate needs to be obtained from the present employer (central govt) that the employee is covered under NPS and the EPF&MP Act is not applicable to the employee, being a central govt employee. This certificate needs to be uploaded along with final withdrawal request.

PS: I was in charge of EPFO PF of a major PSU (exempted trust) at two Zones for 12 out of last 15 years and have processed many such cases.
