Multiuser Expense tracking

Hi folks,

I’ve seen some threads on expense tracking apps, but my primary need is for multi-user support to track shared family expenses with my spouse. Apps like Splitwise won’t work, as they are designed for splitting expenses, not tracking them collaboratively.

Here are the key requirements:

  • Multi-user support: Multiple users should be able to enter expenses, and each entry should clearly show who added it.
  • No automatic reading of SMS or emails.
  • Real-time sync is preferred (internet-based), but offline syncing via Bluetooth/Wi-Fi is also acceptable.
  • No focus on income tracking or credit management – just expense tracking. Budgeting apps, which require entry of money and credit, are not preferred.
  • Mode of payment: Option to specify the mode of payment (e.g., cash, Credit Card with name, UPI).
  • Customizable categories (required): I should be able to create my expense categories.
  • Sub-categories support (Preferred): For example, under “Utilities,” I’d like sub-categories like “Electricity” or “Telecom.”
  • Should be able to generate useful insights like expense breakdowns by category, payment mode, etc.
  • Graphs and charts are important.
  • Willing to pay for a good app, preferably with a one-time payment.

Bonus: If anyone has created an Excel sheet with such functionality and charts, I’d love to try that too.

Moneythings on Apple ecosystem does everything you are looking for, but it needs manual entry. I personally use Wallet by budgetbakers but I only use it individually. I have its family lifetime plan for a potential future use case (MoneyThings). I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket, but it costed 1.5k.

Moneythings - not an iOS user, although my spouse is.
Wallet by budgetbakers - does it have a multi-user feature?
