Make my trip is getting pathetic day by day

There was a time when Goibibo was the go-to travel app for many of us. It was quick, reliable, and often gave better prices and offers than the competition. But ever since MakeMyTrip (MMT) acquired it, the story has taken a disappointing turn.

Over the past few years, what once felt like a fresh, customer-first travel platform MMT - has now become another sluggish, profit-focused behemoth. And this is not just a general complaint — it’s based on repeated, first-hand experience.

In the past one week alone, I’ve made four flight bookings, and every single time, MMT has disappointed me with its inflated fares and lack of transparency. You go through the process, hoping it will offer you a competitive rate — maybe even match the airline’s website. But no. Each time, the fare quoted by MMT was significantly higher than what I found directly on the airline’s own site or PayZapp or Ishop!

Let’s also not forget the extra fees MakeMyTrip sneakily tacks on in the name of convenience or service, which only adds to the final blow of feeling ripped off - they even charged a special MMT cancellation service fee despite paying for zero cancellation insurance (yes, I checked - this mmt cancellation service fee is not stated in MMT terms and conditions). In contrast, direct airline websites are now far more user-friendly and upfront, often even giving you the option to manage your booking with more flexibility.

What went wrong?
  • Goibibo strengths have been diluted. It was nimble, offered great cashback offers, and respected user time. Since the merger, Goibibo feels like just a skin-deep clone of MMT.
  • Customer service has taken a hit. Getting help with a booking or cancellation is now a maze of bots and ticket numbers, with little accountability.
  • Fares are no longer competitive. The entire point of using an OTA (Online Travel Agent) was to get a good deal. If I’m not getting that, why bother?
It’s a shame really, because platforms like MMT used to be synonymous with convenience and savings. But now, with these persistent issues, many of us are reconsidering whether it’s even worth using anymore.

If this continues, more users will start booking directly with airlines, hotel chains, and alternative OTAs that value customer loyalty and offer genuine transparency.

MakeMyTrip, if you’re listening — your legacy is slipping. It’s time to step up or step aside!
