Facing issues with UPI number

Hi everyone,

I am facing a strange issue in that, every time I try to set my mobile number as a UPI number on any of my accounts on Gpay it just says "Couldn't set UPI number". I tried on other apps though the error is different but it fails. Please note that I was able to set it a month or two back until one day I noticed that the UPI number was unset in Google Apps (no idea how) and now I can't set it again. Any idea what might be happening?

Disable the UPI number completely and then enable it again. It works.

That's the catch my UPI number is not set anywhere. Is there any specific way to disable it?

It's an error where it shows UPI number is not set anywhere but in background systems it is set somewhere. I experienced the same issue.
You can find an option in bhim app.

Edit: No option to explicitly disable UPI number, can you give me some pointers.

This is on payzapp.
Go to UPI account section.
Click on 3 dots on top right.
You get manage UPI number and then when you click on mobile number you find an option to deactivate and reactivate it

I tried, as I mentioned the number is not registered as UPI no so after clicking on manage UPI no it asks me to add my no as UPI no (which fails ofc) but no option to disable/deactivate or anything.

What's the app you last used for making mobile number as UPI number?

Just open any UPI app in your relative's phone and enter your mobile number. It'll automatically fetch your UPI ID from the system if it was ever linked. Then you know which app or service is the culprit here.

Yup, I have checked this multiple times. My number is not associated with any ID, it's not being used as a UPI number. Still, I am not able to set it up as a UPI number anywhere. Any idea what is happening?

I am also facing same issue, I am unable to set UPI Number in any app. Any update on this issue?

I am facing the same issue. When it was first launched, I tried it on many UPI apps and kept switching the UPI number. After a while, it stopped working and all apps started showing that UPI number could not be set. Only in iMobile app, it showed error "MM#19". I tried reaching out to the helpline of Phonepe, paytm, ICICI and other banks, but none could resolve this issue.

After much research, I found that this pertains to UPI error code "Port_action_prohibited". So now, at least we know this is part of the UPI system.

Now, I dont know know who to approach to get this reversed. Any help would be appreciated!

I am facing a similar issue. I had my UPI number setup on paytm. I deactivated there and activated on BHIM. As per rules, UPI number can be set on any one app but I tried on paytm and it linked there as well. I thought maybe some error so I removed from paytm and retried, this time it shows error "mapper not found at mapper id" instead of showing "upi number is already linked to xxxxxx@upi id on bhim, delink first to link on paytm". Then I opened Phonepe, UPI number created there as well, similarly on cred, gpay everywhere but now I can't delete the upi numbers there, it shows error. So I have UPI numbers on Phonepe, gpay, cred, Amazon pay. On BHIM I removed and reinstalled app, since then it's showing "consent not found from customer". Strange thing, I should have never enabled UPI number in the first place as I already have accounts in all the major upi apps. Just entering my mobile number in any app should automatically show my details.

I have the same issue. For me it looks like the culprit is PhonePe app because it shows my number is linked and sticked with one my @ybl handle. I was trying to deactivate/ relink the number.. though it shows successfully deactivated but the number stays there with one of the @ybl handle. Searching my phone number by other people won’t show anything. So it’s confirmed that the upi number is deactivated. I have deactivated my phonepe account permanently (they don’t have the option of permanent delete). Still it doesn’t resolve the issue. Fyi, all errors are same as mentioned by other users above like iMobile error, Bhim error etc..

I am also looking for a resolution. Let’s see if anyone will have any luck.

Hi to all... It looks like your Mobile Number as UPI Number has been deactivated from NPCI database. I am also facing the same issue. There is a circular of NPCI, which states that "Recycled Mobile Number can be used only after 6 months". Hope that helps.
