Axis Atlas Base Miles Awarded for Transaction done on Indigo

Hello Everyone,

Axis is back messing up again. I am a frequent traveler and the first airline I look while booking is Indigo. I have been using Atlas since I got it in late February for all my bookings, everything has been smooth so far. I did a transaction for INR 3.5K on 1 Jul (my first after recent TnC change), I was supposed to receive accelerated miles i:e 5 Miles per 100 spent but i received base reward, 2 Miles per 100 spent, talking to Axis Customer support they confirmed the transaction done by me on both 11 June and 1 July on Indigo have same MCC 4511 which is an Airline MCC but now they have excluded this MCC from reward program. As far as I read the new TnC they have just generalized the category. I have written a mail and will be escalating this but has anyone had same experience recently ?

TLDR: Axis has silently excluded airline MCC 4511 from accelerated rewards on the Atlas card. Despite Indigo being your preferred airline and previous bookings earning 5 Miles/₹100, your recent 1 July transaction only earned base rewards (2 Miles/₹100). Axis support confirmed MCC 4511 is now excluded, even though the new T&Cs only broadly mention category changes without clearly stating this.

Merchant category codes (MCCs) that range from 3000 to 3308 are reserved exclusively for airlines. Merchants under this category operate air travel businesses, perform maintenance at airports, and deliver freight via aircraft.

seems 4511 is also use by some travel aggregator like intermiles that's why

Thank you so much. My very important requirement was indigo flight booking. Now that is gone sadly I need to think what to do.
Axis is giving new problems every other day 😀
yeah, same here @cardio_guy
my preferred airline is indigo as well for domestic

I will confirm if I get their response mail tomorrow, maybe some error, but the customer support guy said they have excluded, I hope he is wrong.
thanks a lot @DarthBrooks

Better to escalate and ask Axis to sort this out at their end. This is the USP of the card. If I have to face such problems, then there's no significance of this feature at all. I don't want to keep track of the MCC everytime, let's not make it a norm. The card USP says it, I can book directly on the airline website to get 5 EM, then I should get 5 EM. It shouldn't be my headache; let the PNO know this.

I have made a payment of GBP 152 on Aer Lingus website 5 days back, Axis is yet to settle the payment, will update if I get 5x miles or not.

But customer care is 99.9% providing incorrect information as there has been no information by Axis on airline MCC exclusion so it should still fetch 5x EM and this is the first highlighting feature of Atlas, they never gonna remove it without sending advance info to customers, might be a bug
