Hi everyone
When I checked my axis Bank app now, I just see that a newly issued Indian oil rupay card is showing in the app . I didn't apply/upgrade for any Indian oil card or gives any consent for the same. Then how axis issued the card without my consent and knowledge??? Really shocking & unbelievable!!!! It's my first time issue from axis. How they are supposed to issue this card as I recently upgraded my airtel rupay card. Need your valuable suggestions whether to go with RBI or not???

Yes bro. May be. But
RBI’s 2011 Master Circular & Ombudsman Scheme 2021 are clear:

If a credit card is issued without consent, the bank is liable to not only reverse charges but also compensate for harassment and reputational risk.
I doubt RBI will provide any compensation in this case, since Axis has already acknowledged the issue, acted on it promptly, and is working to resolve it. RBI typically steps in with compensation only in cases of a clear 'deficiency in service,' which this situation doesn’t seem to fall under.
Let's hope for the best. That's all

Oh, wonderful! I didn’t know that. Guess it’s time to bag a hefty compensation 😉.

This is the mail template which I sent to nodal. Please correct me if any changes/ additional information required m Please check whether it's sufficient or not for further escalation:

Name:
Mob no:
Card last 4 digit: XXXX 4321

Respected Sir/Madam,

I am writing this email with deep concern and disappointment regarding the fraudulent and unauthorized issuance of a credit card in my name, which has caused me mental harassment and serious reputational/financial risk.

Today, while checking my Axis Mobile App, I was shocked to find a newly issued Indian Oil RuPay Credit Card (last 4 digits: 4321) linked to my profile and I received a text message today by stating that "Your indian oil axis Bank credit card application ref no.09876543 has been approved ".

I place on record the following facts for your immediate attention:

1. I have never applied for this Indian Oil RuPay credit card.

2. I have not requested any upgrade, and I am not eligible for any upgrade, since I had already upgraded my Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card (Mastercard variant) to RuPay on 1st August 2025. As per Axis Bank’s own rules, a minimum of 90 days must pass after a new issuance/upgrade before another card can be applied or upgraded. Despite this, a new card has been fraudulently issued in my name.

3. The issuance has happened without my knowledge, consent, or OTP authentication, which constitutes a serious breach of trust, violation of RBI’s Fair Practices Code, and deficiency in service.

This is not just a technical lapse – it amounts to misuse of my personal details, unauthorized financial activity, and a direct threat to my creditworthiness. Any reporting of this unauthorized card to CIBIL or other bureaus will cause irreversible damage to my credit score and future borrowing ability.

My Urgent demands from Axis Bank:

1). Immediate Cancellation(closure) & Non-Reporting:

*Cancel and permanently close the Indian Oil RuPay credit card ending with 4321 immediately.

*Ensure that this unauthorized card is not reported to CIBIL or any other credit bureau in any manner. Any such reporting will unfairly damage my CIBIL credit score.

2). Detailed Investigation & Accountability:

*Provide me with a full investigation report on how this application originated, including application source, device/IP, employee/agent involved, and how it was processed without OTP consent.

*Confirm whether my personal KYC details (full name, DOB, mobile number, email ID, residential address, father’s name, mother’s name) were used in this unauthorized application.

3). Written Assurance of No Liability:

*A written confirmation that I will not be held responsible for any charges, annual fees, penalties, or fraudulent transactions linked to this unauthorized card.

4). Compensation for Deficiency & Harassment:

I hereby demand a compensation of ₹99,000 for:

1)Gross deficiency in service and unauthorized issuance of a financial product.

2)Mental agony, stress, and harassment caused by this fraudulent activity.

3)The reputational and financial risk imposed on me due to possible misuse of my personal data.

Axis Bank’s failure to ensure basic safeguards in credit card issuance has caused me undue hardship and loss of peace of mind, for which the above compensation is both justified and reasonable.

If Axis Bank fails to resolve this matter immediately and compensate me adequately, I will be compelled to escalate this issue to the RBI Banking Ombudsman, Consumer Forum, and other regulatory authorities, along with supporting evidence.

I expect a positive response from your end.
Yours faithfully

Escalate to PNO and later 3 reminders to all levels in a week span of each. Write your problem description in points and your request also. Be precise. If you don't get satisfactory response, approach RBIO. I don't think you need to send any documents as requested. Kindly ask them the purpose of these documents.

u don't need to escalate further, its either 'unsatisfactory response' or '30 days'. Here, issue cannot be resolved easily unless one has to wait forever, can escalate directly using nodal officer response.

nodal officer is also important group in banking industry, whose responses are valid and considered as per fulfilment. There is nowhere mentioned only PNO responses eligible for complaint to RBIO.

Axis support starts with PNO.

I send emails directly without contacting the first level support, because they don't understand and send copy paste type of response.

It may take 3-5 days but information provided by PNO is reliable and take action based on that.

Ok. Then complaint to RBIO and wait. RBIO will take their own sweet time. No timelines available for them.
