Amex Plat Travel - No Retention Benefits Offered - July 2025

My Platnium Travel card has come up for renewal and accordingly Amex has charged the annual fee in tbr latest statement.

For the longest time I've seen people talk about the different kinds of offers they received when they called up Amex and ask for waiver.

So I called them up today and asked if they could give me an offer too. Do note I have Platinum and Gold charge cards besides the Travel card.

They flatly, although politely, refused to give me any offer. They say that such an offer is not available for my profile. I really do not want to pay the full fee, even though it's a very beneficial card, having just doled out almost 78k a few months ago for the charge card.

Has anybody else faced this? Were you able to talk with them and get them change their decision and give you an offer?

Would appreciate any inputs.

Looks like cleanup in the process.
First rolled out multiple offers and upgraded Gold charge and platinum travel holders to platinum charge (potential HNIs)
Stopped added new customers
Now no retention offers, which potentially cleans up the bottom layer who just holds card for limit spends and acquiring RP

I tried a lot but I did not get any renewal fee waive offer on platinum travel card. They are just telling Amex is offering more then the value of renewal fee.

These days amex is very strict, not giving any retention benefits.

FYI I spend 4.5l in last card year

2.5 lacs spend is the best option, because you need to spend 4 lacs anyway

I have my plat travel renewal due on 18th July, I did not get any waivers offered. Thinking of closing this card. 2 Atlas + mrcc/gold does the job, and I dont really stay in Taj as much. I've spent approx 5L on the card.

No. They changed their policy effective this month - no more renewal/waiver offers.

2.5 lacs spend is the best option, because you need to spend 4 lacs anyway

I closed my Platinum Travel card yesterday. Spent more than 4 lakhs last year. Limit was around 8 lakhs. They asked me to wait till the annual fee is levied. Then they can provide the offers. I insisted for closure immediately as I do not want to get tied up with one brand of hotels for staying. So spends have reduced. Also majority of my spends are in DCB and Cashback card.

Lack of differentiating features, deteriorating customer service and no more retention offers. I closed my Gold Charge last month and will close Plat Charge and Travel in December. MRCC will stay in wallet as it is LTF.
