Adding wife in ICICI Elevate health insurance, experience?

Hello,

I bought icici elevate insurance last year around in October. I paid for 3 years.

I recently got married. I would like to add my wife in same policy.

What's the experience if someone has done it? (either in icici elevate or some other retail insurance)

What is the cost, benefits, limitations etc?

Do I add her or buy her her own health insurance?

Hi,
Thanks for reaching out.

Congratulations on your recent marriage!

Regarding your ICICI Lombard Elevate health insurance policy — since you've paid for a 3-year term, adding a spouse as a dependent mid-term may be possible, but it depends on the policy’s terms and conditions. Typically, insurers allow adding a spouse after marriage as a “life event,” but you may need to inform them within a specific window (e.g., 30 or 60 days from the event).

Here’s what you can consider:

1. Adding Your Wife to the Same Policy:

Process: Generally requires submitting a marriage certificate and a request form.

Cost: Premium will increase based on her age, health profile, and remaining tenure.

Benefits: Shared sum insured, often simpler to manage one policy.

Limitations: The existing sum insured gets shared; might need to top it up.

2. Getting a Separate Policy for Her:

Benefits: Individual sum insured, personalized features, and flexibility.

Limitations: Slightly higher overall cost but better if both partners need comprehensive coverage.

Experience from others: Many find adding a spouse post-marriage relatively smooth with ICICI and other insurers, provided documentation is timely and accurate.

I’d recommend calling ICICI Lombard's customer care or using their app/portal to initiate the request and compare both options in terms of premium and coverage.

Let me know if you'd like help calculating the premium difference or exploring better family floater options.

hmmm, i did talk to icici and they told me to fill a form (mind you this shit form isn't digital, needs to be scanned and filled like we are back in high school) and send it to them with marriage cert and then they will tell u how mch will it cost with t&c.

I asked icici to give me even a hint of how much it will be around and they denied answering anythijng till the form is sent.

Shit experience.

Congratulations on your Wedding.

I hope both of you are healthy and medically fit (ideally no pre existing disease; disclose if any there). If yes, you can do below:

Take a new floater policy of any company (HDFC or ICICI) with SI of say 5L/10L (Take a super topup of the same company for additional cover if required)

And CANCEL the existing elevate (they will give remaining refund pro rata basis)

What you will lose on the earlier policy:

1.Any waiting periods accumulated for you.
2.Some amount of premium.

Adding another person mid term (and making individual policy to floater) can be a hassle and involve a bit of too much of documentation.

Others can pour in their thoughts too.

Thanks!

I recommend obtaining a separate health insurance policy for your wife. This will ensure broader coverage for both of you, as her needs may differ from yours, including potential maternity coverage, which is not always included in standard plans. Therefore, a new policy specifically for her is advisable. I suggest considering the Niva Bupa Aspire plan, a comprehensive and currently top-rated health insurance option in India. Ultimately, the decision rests with you.
