Hello,
I bought icici elevate insurance last year around in October. I paid for 3 years.
I recently got married. I would like to add my wife in same policy.
What's the experience if someone has done it? (either in icici elevate or some other retail insurance)
What is the cost, benefits, limitations etc?
Do I add her or buy her her own health insurance?
Hi,
Thanks for reaching out.
Congratulations on your recent marriage!
Regarding your ICICI Lombard Elevate health insurance policy — since you've paid for a 3-year term, adding a spouse as a dependent mid-term may be possible, but it depends on the policy’s terms and conditions. Typically, insurers allow adding a spouse after marriage as a “life event,” but you may need to inform them within a specific window (e.g., 30 or 60 days from the event).
Here’s what you can consider:
1. Adding Your Wife to the Same Policy:
Process: Generally requires submitting a marriage certificate and a request form.
Cost: Premium will increase based on her age, health profile, and remaining tenure.
Benefits: Shared sum insured, often simpler to manage one policy.
Limitations: The existing sum insured gets shared; might need to top it up.
2. Getting a Separate Policy for Her:
Benefits: Individual sum insured, personalized features, and flexibility.
Limitations: Slightly higher overall cost but better if both partners need comprehensive coverage.
Experience from others: Many find adding a spouse post-marriage relatively smooth with ICICI and other insurers, provided documentation is timely and accurate.
I’d recommend calling ICICI Lombard's customer care or using their app/portal to initiate the request and compare both options in terms of premium and coverage.
