🌟 Appreciation Post for HDFC Bank – A Great Start for First-Time Credit Card Applicants 💳

Why am I writing this post?
When I decided to help my brother apply for an HDFC Bank credit card—with zero CIBIL score, no prior credit history, and no existing relationship with HDFC—I was genuinely hesitant. I tried looking for similar experiences on forums and communities but couldn’t find much.

So, I thought of sharing our journey here—what better place than the No.1 community for credit card enthusiasts? And also why not joining the elite club of “credit card thread posters who suddenly think they’re credit gurus.😂😅

✅ Here's How It Went:

Recently, I applied for an HDFC credit card for my brother who had:

  • Zero credit history (CIBIL=NH)
  • No prior banking relationship with HDFC

We applied purely based on valid income documents:

  • Income verified through Account Aggregator (AA) for faster processing
  • Provided ITR, entered annual income same as ITR.
  • Based on the profile, BizGrow RuPay Credit Card was recommended—so we went with that

The Process:

  • Biometric KYC was scheduled quickly and completed the very next day
  • Physical home and office verification was smooth and professionally handled
  • Initially, the application was declined, but we were asked to send ITR documents to the Chennai office

⏳ A few days later... Today, the card was approved with a credit limit of ₹1.75L, Got the card we had applied.

💬 My Own Experience (Earlier This Year):

Back in April, I had a similar journey:

  • CIBIL Score: 752
  • Only had a 10K IDFC WOW card with 9 months of history
  • No other bank was approving cards for me
  • Tried applying for HDFC Swiggy Credit Card via their mobile app
  • Card was approved in 4 days, and delivered within 3 days!

Getting that first credit card is always special. I’ve also read some inspiring stories here—especially from @TechnoFino

💡 Some Key Tips for Beginners (From My Experience):

  1. 📅 Apply during festivals or year-end for better offers and approval chances
  2. ✅ Be transparent with your details while applying.
  3. 🏠 Physical home & office verification is mandatory if you don't have a savings account with HDFC
  4. ⏱️ If status shows "In Process" for more than a week, follow up
  5. ❌ If status shows "Declined", don’t panic—ask reason to customer care. it might just need additional documentation (ITR, etc.) There are always second chance.
  6. 📬 In That cases, you’ll need to courier physical copies to their chennai office.

📝 Important Note – Mask Your Aadhaar in ITR

This was a new learning for me:

  • Never upload/share ITR with your full Aadhaar number visible to any bank as income documents for hassel-less procedure.
  • As per guidelines, They can't accept ITR with full adhar number visible. only the last 4 digits should be visible.
  • Axis Bank rejected application instantly if ITR is unmasked, especially when applied via agents
  • Many banks still accepting as I know.

🎉 Final Thoughts:

Out of 5 total applications (including myself, my brother, and friends), all were either first-time or first unsecured credit card applicants—and the result?

✅ 5 out of 5 approved. If your documents and eligibility are solid, HDFC is truly beginner-friendly.

Thanks for reading! Hope this post helps someone who's just starting out.
