HDFC Pre-Approved Credit Card Rejected

Hi everyone,

I’m sharing my experience with HDFC Bank regarding a pre-approved credit card offer with a ₹1 lakh limit, which I was genuinely looking forward to.

Unfortunately, my application was rejected, and the reason provided was:

“We encountered a challenge while verifying and validating your Residence address through our Contact Point Verification process, and it did not meet our Residence verification norms.”

Here’s why this is frustrating:

  • No one from HDFC came to my residence or contacted me during the verification process.
  • I’ve been using my HDFC account for over 2 years, and the same address is listed as my communication address.
  • I previously had an HDFC Tata Neu credit card registered to this exact same address, which I closed in 2023.
I’ve already sent emails to escalation team and also reached out on Twitter , but so far all I’ve received are generic responses with no clear resolution or willingness to re-initiate the verification process.
Now I have now written to (Grievance Officer) requesting them to re-initiate the contact point verification and reconsider my application.

It’s disappointing to see a pre-approved card being rejected due to unclear verification procedures. Has anyone else faced similar issues with HDFC’s address verification or CPV process?

Would appreciate any advice or experiences.

(Thanks to ChatGPT 😛)

There is only one solution rn

Apply pre approved cc via branch official code / via them

You miss on 1.5k gv but gets the cc without if & but

The Term 'Pre-Approved' is very misleading, There is nothing pre-approved, it's just your profile is eligible for the card and bank want to you to 'try', The term makes you believe that bank has already checked and verified all your details and ready to give you the card which is far from the reality, I received my HDFC card ten years ago, there was no address verification at that time, may be things have changed

This wasn't the case before. I don't know when they have started this but it used to straightforward process. You apply for card and get it approved next day or 2-3 days max with pre-approved limit.

This recent process sucks and i don't know how they can reject application in 2 days without doing proper verification if this is how they are going to process so called pre-approved application.

May be you are right, The pre- approved process is now changed, My Axis card was approved and dispatched within minutes of me applying the card back in 2017!
