I got my Standard Chartered Smart Credit Card on April 16, 2025. One of its features is that for the first 90 days, you can pay just the minimum amount due without incurring interest.
I followed this and paid the minimum amount for the first statement. In June, I requested to change my billing cycle from the 16th to the 27th of each month. After the change, my new statement was generated, and I noticed interest charges on my purchases.
When I contacted customer care, they said the 90-day period was from April 16 to July 16, and since the new statement was generated after July 16, I was charged interest. However, when I had asked about the billing cycle change earlier, I was told I could continue paying the minimum amount until the third statement, and I was not informed that changing the billing cycle would affect the 90-day interest-free period.
I’ve requested a reversal of the charges, and they said they’ll check if it’s possible.
I feel this could’ve been avoided if I had been clearly informed about the impact of changing the billing cycle. Has anyone else faced this? Any suggestions on how to escalate or ensure the reversal goes through?
