TravelEdge + Magnus vs Skyscanner + SBI CC (5% Cashback) ..
I did some comparison of flight worth 5410 in Travel edge vs same flight in Skyscanner showing 5040.-5% of sbi cc= 4788
Price difference is 5410-4788 = 622 in cash.
Points from magnus will be int(5740/200)*12*5 = 1620*0.5(equivalent conversion in terms of cash when doing flight booking ) = 810 ..

So is it worth paying extra 622 in cash for getting some 150 benefit ? which can be devalued anytime .. and getting reward flight is also pain ..

P.S. Assume here that we have already reached 1L milestone bonus .. so 25k additional point is irrelevant in this calculation

The real catch is the value that you assign to ERs.

If it is 50ps or less then Skyscanner.

If more than 50ps, may be TravelEdge.

I assigned 50ps .. because when we book award flight we need to pay extra surcharge etc as well .also as per Vistara DEL-BLR ideally should be 7500 points .. but most of the time they show 10000-11000 points etc + extra cash.

You just listed 2 easiest ways to get discount, which is like 10-12%. Just one more simple way is hdfc Smartbuy for about 14% discount.

Now let me tell u some harder ways to get more discounts. As discounts will rise, it will be more and more difficult.

Consider flight offers when u can easily get 15-16% on sites like EMT, MMT if u have those cards.

On cleartrip, u get 50 supercoin and if u go via cashkaro, u get 120rs extra cashback. For 5k ticket, this will be about 3% extra making it 19%.

Cleartrip has special tatkal offers once or twice a year, when they offer child ticket free (33% discount) and Flat 50% discount also. Of course, limited seats and u need to be really fast. Combine with above offers making it 53%.

Cleartrip also allow supercoin payment and it can be combined with any ongoing offers. Magicpin sometimes sell these at 15-20% discount and buy them with sbi cb card for 5% extra discount. Combining this with tatkal offer makes it 63% discount.

Now there was some bug some time back in magicpin where u get double supercoins for single purchase. So, effectively u purchased supercoins at about 60% discount. Now combine this with tatkal offer of 53% discount making it effective 80% discount.

Now personally I have not reached 80% ever. But I have got several flights at 50% discount last year tatkal offer. 33% discount in child ticket free offer this year. 67% discount using 16% bank offer and 60% discount form magicpin supercoin bug.

Like I always say, It all depends on how much effort u r putting in getting discounts. I have never used Skyscanner and Travel edge, as I never found them good enough.
