Just wanted to share my experience using the TRAI DND 3.0 app (for those dealing with spam calls/SMS in India).
You can download the app from play store : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=trai.gov.in.dnd
So I downloaded it recently and here’s how it went:
1. Registration:
First, I had to register using my mobile number. Since I use a dual SIM phone, the app required me to verify both numbers via OTP (kind of annoying but makes sense for accuracy).
2. Permissions:
The app asked for permissions to access call details, SMS info, etc., which is understandable because it uses that data to help identify and report spammers.
3. Home Interface:
Once you’re in, the home screen gives clear options like:
Report Spam Call
Report Spam SMS
Fraud Complaint
And few other options
4. Reporting Spam:
For example, I got a spam call from a credit card company. I tapped on Spam Call, selected the number from my call log, chose the type of spam from the list, and hit Submit. You will see a red star mark on that number after submitting the complaint, which indicates that you have made a complaint against the number.
That’s it! The app automatically sends the complaint to your telecom operator, and DND gets activated if needed. They also take action against repeat offenders.
Honestly, the process was smooth and takes less than a minute once you’re set up.
Most importantly Spam calls are reduced to nill after complaint few numbers. So each time after getting any spam call just submit a compliment.
Also my personal suggestion don't submit complaint against official numbers of the bank or other institutions, maybe you will loose some updates or pre-approved offers. Just complaint against those personal number who just want to sell you something.
Note : I'm a Jio user so for me after submitting the complaint I received an sms with a request id from Jio that they are taking my complaint and will work on it. Few days later I recieved updates on the same.
