TRAI DND 3.0 app — super easy way to report spam calls/SMS

Just wanted to share my experience using the TRAI DND 3.0 app (for those dealing with spam calls/SMS in India).

You can download the app from play store : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=trai.gov.in.dnd

So I downloaded it recently and here’s how it went:

1. Registration:

First, I had to register using my mobile number. Since I use a dual SIM phone, the app required me to verify both numbers via OTP (kind of annoying but makes sense for accuracy).

2. Permissions:

The app asked for permissions to access call details, SMS info, etc., which is understandable because it uses that data to help identify and report spammers.

3. Home Interface:

Once you’re in, the home screen gives clear options like:

Report Spam Call

Report Spam SMS

Fraud Complaint

And few other options

4. Reporting Spam:

For example, I got a spam call from a credit card company. I tapped on Spam Call, selected the number from my call log, chose the type of spam from the list, and hit Submit. You will see a red star mark on that number after submitting the complaint, which indicates that you have made a complaint against the number.

That’s it! The app automatically sends the complaint to your telecom operator, and DND gets activated if needed. They also take action against repeat offenders.

Honestly, the process was smooth and takes less than a minute once you’re set up.
Most importantly Spam calls are reduced to nill after complaint few numbers. So each time after getting any spam call just submit a compliment.

Also my personal suggestion don't submit complaint against official numbers of the bank or other institutions, maybe you will loose some updates or pre-approved offers. Just complaint against those personal number who just want to sell you something.

Note
: I'm a Jio user so for me after submitting the complaint I received an sms with a request id from Jio that they are taking my complaint and will work on it. Few days later I recieved updates on the same.

@akshayhs suggested this app, so thanks to him 🫡

Useful. But is it trustable ?

Actually this app is just a mediator, after submitting the complaint against the number, trai will reach to the service providers to take action and do the necessary action if call centers are using personal number to sell products. So I think it's trusted, but yes I'm not sure how secure is this, but it's an official app of TRAI so you can trust this.
Or after few days uninstall the app.

the interface is way different in iOS, anyway, i registered myself and raised a request to block everything. will report back in a week,
It will take time, I mean I had registered complaint against atleast 8 to 10 numbers after that those credit card spam call are finally stopped. So you have to do the same if you are getting frequent Spam calls

Thanks!!! Installed in my phone.

Its gud app. So easy to file complain. Few days ago I reported a call. Yesterday got msg frm airtel that services to the particular no. has been restricted. This will definitely reduce spam whn mor n mor ppl start complaining

Haha ...

How to stop spam calls/ SMS from Jio themselves ?!

Also, does it depend on a minimum threshold number of complaints from multiple users against a specific number before that is blocked?

I never received any Spam call from jio, I have already activated the DND request from my jio app.

No minimum threshold I guess, it works individually, I mean if you are complaining about a spam call, TRAI will inform your operator to stop that number to call you. Also TRAI will send notice to the owner of the numbers if they are doing these call from private number, if they failed to show the exact reason, maybe there number will be blocked permanently.

I ususally have the default dialler on Redmi phone. (I thi nk it is the Google dialler). If some call is spam, I immediately mark as spam in the dialler itself and block it. That's how I have been doing, and I am not sure if it is very useful or not. But I have noticed that after reporting and blocking, I usuallly don't get call from that number again. And if at all I get a call, it is automatically marked as spam.

Nothing happens. I used the DND 2.0 app for several months last year, consistently reporting 10–12 spam calls daily. I followed this diligently for 3–4 months and often received SMS updates saying the reported numbers were barred. However, the spam calls continued at the same rate, and eventually, I stopped reporting. My service provider was Airtel, and I even tried reaching out to them via email, but they weren’t helpful either.

But for me it works like a charm.

spammers are smarter than DND 3.0..they will beat DND 1000.0 also...For my all spam calls reported, i always receive update that it is service call...I activated DND on my phone, where unknown calls are silenced by the phone...Now my life is peaceful

.

1 - warning
2 - cap on the number of calls (like max 20 per month)
3 - number blocker and blacklisted

Jio has been very good. 90% of my complaints have resulted in putting a monthly cap on the spammer.

it will not help...The intent is not there to stop spam calls...Putting a cap will not help...They have 1000 mob no's...The cap is removed after 1 month and they start using that no again....

I suggested simple solution to TRAI to stop spam calls...Each mob no is linked to aadhaar...if someone found spamming, black list his aadhaar no & disable all his mob no's. Also he will not be able to take new SIM in future if aadhaar is blocked...It will permanently FIX the problem.

I have been doing with sending SMS to 1909 in the specific format I believe it will result in same action as the app. It has resulted in lower number of spam calls for me and many times put a cap on caller as well.
While the app maybe good I am not comfortable sharing the my call details to any app, precisely the reason I don't use truecaller.

privacy is a biggest myth...Someone is already reading ur mails, accessing ur social media profiles and u r worried about ur call details....If you think that no one is checking ur call details or whatsapp messages then you are living in a fool's paradise
