History (can skip):
slice is not just another app - it's a memory for many minnenials who were in college from 2016-2020. The pay in 3 enabled me to buy my first phone, my first camera and the biggest strech is it unlocked my credit score, the 1.5 Lakh limit back then was a dream for me!
Then it went through RBI crackdowns, was insanely loss making (still closing on it) but the goated founder Rajan went ahead and bought the North East Small Finance bank, and rebranded to slice Small Finance Bank - and here they are with a UPI-first Bank Account with RBI repo-rate linked interest rates and now - the much revered pay in 3 feature in an actual rupay credit card with upto 3% cashback on both swipes and UPI Scan and Pay.
Eligibility:
All existing Slice users have a priority for now with a 750+ credit score (hinted by customer support). Having a FD with slice (which pays the highest interest rates for 1 year in India) does not help in your eligibility. However a good savings AQB does bump you up (again hinted by customer support).
They have scanned and included many proprietorship companies as well (much larger than HDFC/ICICI/Axis), which means your self-employed business may be listed which you can show you're salaried from. I cannot confirm eligibility if company is not listed.
Application Process:
The curved "P" like icon at the bottom in the second last (erstwhile Slice Borrow) should show you as Start Application Process if eligible.
The process thereafter is DIY, however here's a few tips and known bugs:
- while choosing the account aggregator section to link your account, if you notice the AA is NADL (at the bottom of the application page and the header of the OTP you receive), you may get an Invalid OTP error even after entering the correct OTP. In this case you need to reach out to Slice via help or X DMs (X has faster response and easier to upload screen recording)
- link the account which has the highest balance (and Bank is available to link)
- the application may fail to fetch credit score and you would be instantly rejected and asked to reapply after 3 months. Again, DM Slice on X or help chat and share your credit score screenshot from the slice app itself. They would reset the credit card application flow and you can apply again.
Benefits (still confirming):
- Zero Card, First Year Fee or Annual Fee
- 1% Monies Cashback (1 Monies= 1 Rupee) for all transactions with exclusions in Transactions sliced into EMIs, Wallet loading, fuel, insurance, rental, education, taxes, government services and online gaming/gambling spends. (Have to test whether it is there for non BBPS utilities or not)
- This Cashback is eligible for Slice in-App Rupay UPI spends (3rd Party app support will be enabled soon), Card Swipe, Tap & Pay and Online Transactions.
- Tiered cashback on achieving
-- 3 Lakh Spends - 1.5%
-- 5 Lakh Spends - 2%
-- 5 Laks Spends + 5 Lakhs AQB - 3%
- The Monies eligibility counter used to previously drop to zero on unlocking each tier. This time you essentially have to not redeem your monies upto 5 Lakhs (damn bad!) - and keep another 5 Lakhs in AQB (total 10 Lakhs of unlocked balance) to keep getting 3% cashback as monies again. And carefully only redeem the monies over 5 Lakhs.
- Monies are valid 3 years from the date of issue of each monies. So, ideally you have to keep a higher balance than 10 Lakhs (5 Lakhs AQB + 5 Lakhs Monies) with constant usage to keep earning optimally.
- From a savings perspective, this isn't quite smart unless you are a heavy UPI spender and/or are able to make spends in categories where other cashback cards are not eligible.
- Slice exclusive offers - The section is still empty but in the past, I had extensively used their redbus and flight offers (which worked atop OTA discount coupons).
- Slice in 3 - pay a particular transaction in 3 interest-free installments (one month extra for emergencies for the financially imperfect ones. These transactions do not earn monies.
Experience (coming soon - card yet to arrive)
If you are new to slice (never used it before), you may DM me for a &id code.
