A quick update for everyone during this busy tax payment season

🔹 It has been confirmed that the SBI Cashback Credit Card is giving 5% cashback on tax payments.
🔹 Interestingly, some members had already reported this back in June/July 2025, but it went a bit unnoticed at the time.
🔹 Now, with many people actively paying taxes, this has become really useful information.

I posted regarding this 2 weeks back that SBI CB T&C doesn't mention MCC 9311 (tax payment) in the exclusion list, so it should give CB on tax payment. However, few others confirmed they haven't got CB. I just paid the tax amount yesterday. I wish I could make a re-payment 🙁

I didn't use my SBI CB for tax payment. I was really doubtful whether I would get any cashback or not.

There are contradictory news on this topic.

Some users, on Reddit, from where Twitter folks picked up news, shared that they were getting CB earlier (few months back) but didn't get this time.

So, I would urge to be double sure and do small transaction and share back results.

Paying incometax using a credit card?

Keep this in mind.

There are multiple gateways with different charges.

Use HDFC gateway with 0.8% charges.
MCC 9311 Govt services.

Use SBI gateway with 0.8% charges.
MCC 9311 Govt services.

Use Canara gateway with 0.9% charges, MCC 9311 Govt services. Can use amex cards as well .

Avoid Kotak gateway with 0.85% charges. MCC 9399 Utilities which is excluded for sbi cashback cards.

SBi Cashback cred card not excluded for government spends. NPS and other stuff people already confirmed. Income tax also works for few depending on mcc...

Some r getting even with same gateway mcc
My bill cycle 3rd post which I give a try with phonepe black if no cb atleast I get milestone of 1.5l
