ICICI Bank is still making things very difficult. Today I managed to get a bit more clarity on my situation, but it's still frustrating.

Here's my story so far. I opened a salary account with ICICI around March-end 2025, but I never linked my employer or credited salary into the account. Because of that, in their system, the account is marked as "unsalary" instead of a proper salary account. My idea was to just use the account like a regular savings account without any salary transactions, mainly to get into the ICICI banking system.

Earlier, when I tried to upgrade it to a Family account by adding my wife's details, I used to get four options— Family 360, Salary Family, Wealth Family, and Private Family. Out of these, only the Salary Family option worked and allowed me to proceed to the next step. But I never completed the upgrade. Also, the app never showed my Minimum Average Balance (MAB); it kept showing an error asking me to contact customer care.
Since June, even the four upgrade options disappeared, and now it just says my account is not eligible for family banking.

Today I visited an ICICI branch. They told me the account is stuck in "unsalary" mode, and I need to either convert it to a salary account by adding my employer and crediting salary, then apply for "Salary Family" (code: PFMLY). Or, I can convert it to a regular savings account (code: GAA10) with a ₹10,000 balance requirement. But to upgrade this to Family360, they’re asking for a ₹50,000 balance. If I do nothing and keep it as "unsalary", they might close the account in the future. I'm seriously considering filing a complaint with the RBI or banking ombudsman to ask ICICI to convert this to Family360 and give me the benefits.
They're correct buddy.

If the account marked unsalary then you need to either make it to salary code or normal savings account code. They can't do anything if the account marked as unsalaried but the account tied-up with salary code only (Same thing for me. My account was marked as un-funded salary account).

If you don't want to go in salary way then 1st make it Privilege savings account then ask them based on your credit card limit or investments to convert it into Family 360 (no need of funding of 50k).

Best way I prefer is credit card limit.

Yes, thanks for the reply. The 2nd part is the most difficultest.
"make it Privilege savings account then ask them based on your credit card limit or investments to convert it into Family 360 (no need of funding of 50k)."

It willl not work without help from higher ups, complaints or escalations. Branch staff will never do this. (Or this is a God given chance to improve my negotiation skills 🙂 )

Another thing I noticed is the staff or RM you interact is the most important person in deciding what we get from ICICI.
If the staff or RM is bad, and they decide that they won't pass on any benefits to us, even though we are eligible, we can't do anything.
It's all in their hands. Then we need to escalate, involve higher ups, and raise complaints etc.
But if the staff or RM is good (which is very rare to get), then we can get most of the things without struggling hard.

So true.

My DPM is good.

Hi All, @cardio_guy,
I recently got my and my spouse salary account linked under ICICI salary family banking successfully but Family debit card was not issued. When I escalated this to ICICI bank PNO I got reply saying Family debit card is not applicable for accounts linked under Salary Family Banking. Is it true..? Has any one got Family debit card after enrolling to Salary Family Banking..?

Yes that is my understanding going through the website thoroughly. Salary family and Family360 are different.

Family 360 --> has family debit card.
Salary family --> is same like salary account for all members. (0 charge for everything) but no family card.

It is my understanding, I may be wrong.
I am still struggling to even convert my unsalary account to salary account 🥺

You're right.

Salary family account just share the benefits whereas Family 360 is like top-up on Privilege.

Site details are confusing at one place it says family debit cards is available for salary account. PFA image. I did share this with PNO but no success.

If your account is no more salaried then most probably the account already converted to unfunded salaried account. --> check with bank once. Same thing happened for me.

If that's the case, you can convert the unfunded to some savings account code and then ask them to make it Family 360 code (it hardly takes a day for them).

I went with my wife as Primary account holder as her account is still salary account --> Yes, Family 360 also be provided to salaried folks.

There is no difference of Salary Family 360 or Savings Family 360. --> if you have salary account then except Family 360 debit card no difference buddy. Why to take that much tension ??

I converted because I got the call from ICICI stating the change in my account norms. I asked him if there will be any charge on IMPS and debit card. He said yes as your account now normal Privilege account.

Yes....ICICI is really useless now ....
Everything is complicated.....

💯 This is the case with me. It is unfunded salary account now. I will visit branch next week and blast. They are just testing my patience.
Even with credit card of 10L limit they are asking for maintaining MAB 25k. Horrible and difficult to deal with them.

But is there really any TnC exists that says if you hold icici credit card with some limit then you will get some benefits for ICICI savings account?
