They're correct buddy.ICICI Bank is still making things very difficult. Today I managed to get a bit more clarity on my situation, but it's still frustrating.
Here's my story so far. I opened a salary account with ICICI around March-end 2025, but I never linked my employer or credited salary into the account. Because of that, in their system, the account is marked as "unsalary" instead of a proper salary account. My idea was to just use the account like a regular savings account without any salary transactions, mainly to get into the ICICI banking system.
Earlier, when I tried to upgrade it to a Family account by adding my wife's details, I used to get four options— Family 360, Salary Family, Wealth Family, and Private Family. Out of these, only the Salary Family option worked and allowed me to proceed to the next step. But I never completed the upgrade. Also, the app never showed my Minimum Average Balance (MAB); it kept showing an error asking me to contact customer care.
Since June, even the four upgrade options disappeared, and now it just says my account is not eligible for family banking.
Today I visited an ICICI branch. They told me the account is stuck in "unsalary" mode, and I need to either convert it to a salary account by adding my employer and crediting salary, then apply for "Salary Family" (code: PFMLY). Or, I can convert it to a regular savings account (code: GAA10) with a ₹10,000 balance requirement. But to upgrade this to Family360, they’re asking for a ₹50,000 balance. If I do nothing and keep it as "unsalary", they might close the account in the future. I'm seriously considering filing a complaint with the RBI or banking ombudsman to ask ICICI to convert this to Family360 and give me the benefits.
If the account marked unsalary then you need to either make it to salary code or normal savings account code. They can't do anything if the account marked as unsalaried but the account tied-up with salary code only (Same thing for me. My account was marked as un-funded salary account).
If you don't want to go in salary way then 1st make it Privilege savings account then ask them based on your credit card limit or investments to convert it into Family 360 (no need of funding of 50k).
Best way I prefer is credit card limit.
