I did around 60k INR txn internationally in Malaysia on INFINIA assuming it's net positive after 2.2 % markup due to 3.3% RR + 1% GVP.

To my surprise, everything went normally until i saw 2 big txn's that didn't fetched any RP .. neither on base RR nor GVP.

xx/xx/2025 17:26:47 - SWITCH @ PLZ LOW YATT KUALA LUMP MYR 1399.00 - 0 - 27,188.47
xx/xx/2025 16:40:28 - FIRESTORM SDN BHD KUALA LUMP MYR 318.00 - 0 - 6,180.08

Which basically made everything negative as these were 2 big txn's which could have fetched 1100+300 = 1400 RP's .
These were electronic purchases nothing from the categories exempted.

SWITCH is official reseller of Apple in Malaysia.

I have mailed INFINIA support to see what they say .. but any idea's on how to deal with such cases ? If someone has encountered similar situations ?

Mail them a copy of the invoice to prove it’s an eligible purchase.

I have. Less than two months back, I was in Thailand, where I must have made about 20 transactions in about a week. Each transaction earned RPs, applicable, except two. The two were at two different locations [museums], but uniquely, had one similarity between them: both the merchants were Govt [of Thailand] merchants.

I have no idea if Govt merchants are “exempt”; but that cannot be, since other Govt [merchant] transactions that I had done – both in Thailand, and in other countries – have indeed earned reward points. Then why did these two not earn any? I’ve no idea.

I had almost forgotten all about it, till this post brought it to my attention again.

Sorted out, received email response which was pretty generic.

Called the INFINIA support helpline, the guy who responded was knowledgeable and identified the issue.

Instead of posting the points on the txn table as usual in statement, the points was posted as a separate entry in Bonus section with base rate 3.33% under entry of Telecom. So HDFC is considering all electronic purchases of mobile / smart-watchs / accessories under telecommunication equipment which is separate with cap of 2000 RP per month.

Not sure if this was due to different merchant code used or it's generic for HDFC.

There was 2 txn's one of smart watch and another of some mobile accessories from 2 different stores.
