Need Suggestion on Amex Plat Travel Retention Options

My Amex Plat Travel is due for renewal next month, called customer care to close the card because I don't want to pay the renewal fee of 5000+GST.
They offered 3 options as below to retain my card account-
  1. They will reduce the fee by 50 %, i need to pay 2500+GST for renew
  2. They will waive the renewal fee after deducting 10000 MR points
  3. I need to spend 1.5L in next 90 days & they will revert the fees i paid along with GST. I will be getting regular rewards & milestone benefit as well on that spend.
The last option I feel is better, but need suggestion from you guys.

I met the 4 lakh milestone on Plat Travel last year but am planning not to use it this year as it has very low value compared to my other cards. Nevertheless, I will pay the fee and keep the card just for the heck of it. If they give me 10k points for fee payment, then it’s an ok deal. Will continue to use my Amex Gold card a little bit.
I agree... Even I am struggling to use Plat Travel with other cards I have. My renewal coming in June and only used 17K till now

Not sure of your situation, but it's the easiest card to hit milestones.

Simple use it for spends that you don't get rewards on other cards for

Insurance, jewellery, government, heavy utility

I don't have much insurance spends...only Car and health, for which I use Infinia or Apay due to acceptance issues

Govt is on Biz Black.... Don't have heavy utility either... nothing that Apay + Axis Airtel cannot take care of

Majority spends on Education etc. go on M4B/Atlas. Jewellery is relatively small amount.. SBI cashback works like a charm on DCC enabled websites

Redemption experience on Infinia/Biz and M4B/Atlas black is very smooth on flights/hotels and Accor. Redeeming MR points on Marriott is a big circus to get good redemption value of more than 0.6INR per MR

In which scenarios are you using Amex Gold CC? I'm planning to get charge reversed and close it.
Mostly to buy Amazon Pay vouchers for 10k each month which gives me 2k MR points. In addition, I tap it a few times per day for small amounts where I wouldn’t get any rewards with other cards. Like a payment of Rs 40, 80 or 140. These wouldn’t get me anything with Infinia. I tap my cards several times each day for payments.

Are you still buying APV with the convenience fees?

Does amex provide fee waiver for first year like if I spend 1.5L within 90 days after getting the plat travel card?
No no not for the first year.
they will give you retention offer for the second year--
1) Target spend to reverse the second year renewal fee
2) Pay 100% fee and get American Express points
3) Pay the fee using points only

The target spend is variable depending on how much you used the card in the first year.
You can ask customer care how they calculate the target spend, but they say that they don't know

Hi everyone, I've been a user of Amex plat travel for past 2 years and it has been pretty rewarding journey. Since there hasn't been any major change in my expenses, I was considering a shuffle in my credit card portfolio.

My primary cards are - DCB metal, HDFC Tata Neu Infinite, Axis Airtel and Amex plat travel.

I'm thinking about of retiring Amex and getting Axis Atlas instead. The major reason is that I usually used to buy Amazon voucher from gyftr platform but 1st they had capping and then they increased the charges to 1.5%+gst on buying the vouchers has inpacted my experience and it appears that amex is trying to reduce the benefits on their cards.

I currently use Amex for upto 4L and then move my major spends to DCB as it is outright most rewarding except expenses like airtel bill payment or grocery for which I have dedicated cards. I would shift my expenses from Amex and few expenses from DCB to Atlas.

I would love to hear what you guys have to say on this, thanks a lot in advance!!

Yeah if u r into miles game and can meet milestones of atlas then go-ahead.
Also atlas doesn't have acceptance issues like amex

If you are not into Platinum Travel collection or Mariott then Amex Platinum Travel is not useful for you. But fact remains it’s one of the few cards in the market with hardly any exclusions especially for milestone owing to which makes it kind of hard to ditch it if one expenses such categories are significant.

If you are into Accor/ITC or Foreign Air Miles Programs (with fair amount of travel overall) then only Atlas makes sense. That being said there is always a subtle fear of points claw back/show me your invoice tantrum in future with Axis. If one is fine with this then it’s one of the best all rounder card as well.

I only use MR points for MB, no other redemption so far. But I think with Atlas I'll have accor as hotel partner and can always rely on DCB smartbuy but air miles is one place where Arlas stands out over Amex. But maybe for just one year I'll keep the card just to see if I can hit milestones using category of transactions blocked by others.

How do you use Amex for such categories like insurance, rent, govt spends like taxes or utilities like electricity bills? APay cap is 10k p.m. so that's just 1.2L in a year that too now with 1.5% charges.
