ITC Royal Bengal, Kolkata: Redefining the Royal Ambience of Bengal

IMG_0935.jpg

With my recent stays in many hotel chains, ITC is becoming my favourite for its versatility and its hospitality. Somewhat I feel like ITC properties are the hidden gems in India which are very less explored by the luxury travellers.

With the recent flexibility of the Green Points which can be transferred from Axis Bank's Edge Reward Program, ITC is the most valued redemption so far in India, which I've observed so far. Not only that ITC's Loyalty Program is very much straight-forward and it's easily achievable with only award booking, which is mind-blowing! If you see the competitors' loyalty programs, this flexibility is not available there.

Now let's come to the stay of mine at one of the iconic and flagship property of ITC in India, which is ITC Royal Bengal. This time the stay at ITC was a special one as it was my mother's birthday, and taking the decision to celebrate it at ITC Royal Bengal was one of the best decision I can say.

As being points and miles enthusiast, this stay was no exception than booking with Green Points. I booked the Club Executive Room for only 8,000 Green Points and I just reached out to ITC Royal Bengal to check if I can an upgrade and as always, ITC was sweet enough to upgrade it to their best of the room type, which is a Luxury Suite. The per green point value I got was insane. This suite revenues between ₹ 35,000 - ₹ 45,000, so even at its lowest price point, it gave ₹ 4.4 value per Green Point. It'd be injustice not to mention a person's name who took care of everything at our stay even when he was not on duty, Mr. Anuraag, who serves at ITC as Complex Front Office Manager of ITC Royal Bengal and ITC Sonar. From change of dates to the late night meals we had, he made sure everything is going smooth.

Now let's come to the experience. We did an early check-in and we had to wait only for 10 mins to complete the check-in process. As my mother is an elderly person, the did all the check-in process off desk, and made sure nothing is causing any kind of trouble.

After the check-in formality was end, we got escorted to the room and my mom got really happy after seeing the room, and she absolutely loved it. Some welcome amenities:

The room was actually spacious, the biggest one I've stayed so far in any suites of ITC. It not only does pamper the leisure travellers but also does pamper the business travellers as well. It got all the arrangements from a big working desk to beautiful cozy bed room, everything was there. Oh yes, did I forget to tell the beautiful city view this room offered from the common area as well as from the bed room? You can also see the beautiful ITC Sonar from this room itself. Here are some snaps of the room itself:

Hi dada
Awesome moments thanks for sharing with us
Just a query is this room upgrade by any culinaire membership voucher?

Recently stayed for a night at Royal Bengal using cullinaire, it’s indeed a beautiful Property , better than Sonar .
Yup, Sonar is bit out-dated, as it's already more than 20+ years old property but they're renovating and ITC Royal Bengal is one of the flagship property of ITC. The Presidential Suite is the best in Kolkata even better than Oberoi's. Will be staying there soon and will share the experience with you all

Yes Oberoi really needs a new makeover , I can understand it’s a heritage property but some of things really need to be upgraded .
But Oberoi is love . ITC Royal Bengal is overall a better deal indeed, and hands down the best property in Kolkata

I've read your travelogues here, with interest, and most of the time you seem to get upgraded
In percentage terms, at a personal level, how often do you get a free upgrade (a) overall (b) for revenue bookings (c) for award bookings
Would you say that you get upgraded more often than other people and if yes, what do you believe is the reason (if it is a secret, no issues, just say so :) )
I don't travel, so this question is just out of idle curiosity (us cats, you know, always curious :) )

With ITC all have been award booking except one which I'm drafting now, ITC Rajputana, where I paid with vouchers when there was no option to convert any reward points to green points of ITC. So I just asked them if they could arrange an upgrade, they just did. ITC have been really nice to me so far.

For Taj, during check-in they just auto upgraded and let me know, I didn't ask for an upgrade but it was only +1 and Suites to higher category of Suites.

For Postcard Hotels, they did auto upgrade as well. It was a redemption of EazyDiner pts + revenue.

The only secret is be nice to them and ask for the upgrade at most of the time. These hotel chains usually provide the upgrade when it's available.

Yes most luxury hotel chains do provide upgrades. You just need to ask for it . I remember I was once upgraded for my stay in Taj Palace Mumbai heritage wing , I just had to say we are here to celebrate our anniversary and they upgraded our stay to 1+. But that was a revenue booking, though I was a inner circle member back then.

Yes, of course, you need to book your stay separately. Meals do come complimentary with the room but not vice versa.
