IDFC select to wealth upgrade done after card closure request

I had select cc, wanted to upgrade to wealth.
I sent all the documents and requested to upgrade. They did upgrade the credit limit but refused wealth card.

Frustrated me, filed for card closure. After 3 days, I received call from retention team told them the reason for closure is because this card isn't rewarding to me.
I didn't even want wealth at this point, just wanted to close it.
The lady checked my details and mentioned you recently upgraded right ? I told her, no my request was rejected. She then mentioned, she can get me upgraded if I cancel the card closure. I told, go ahead if not upgraded I will request for closure again.

2 days now and I see its been upgraded ! Absolute win !!

hi, I've select cc I do want to upgrade, what's your limit, and how old is the card?
Docs required for this entire process?

what all docs did you send and to what email id?
 
the usual; 2 months pay slip and bank statement but my initial request was rejected, they only upgraded the limit.
Once I requested for closure; the retention team called and offered the upgrade.
Can you give an idea of your in hand salary? I have also received mail for sharing pay slip for limit increase against upgradation request.

Thinking whether sharing will help or not. Current limit is 3L.

My in-hand is lesser then what they asked for. Ask for closure once the limit is increased and they will definitely upgrade it I am sure.
I didn't even use my select card once before asking for upgrade.

previoulsy 5L limit was required for wealth upgrade... but with devaluation u should easily be upgraded even with 3L credit limit.. if they deny via payslip try placing closure request,,,, retention team will definitely upgrade
 
Need Guidance on Upgrading IDFC 10K MAB Account to Select Variant

Hi everyone,

I need some suggestions from fellow Technofino members regarding my IDFC FIRST Bank savings account.

🔹 I had opened a normal savings account with 10K Monthly Average Balance (MAB) on 7th June 2025.
🔹 Since then, my maintained average balance is already ₹2.10+ lakhs.
🔹 My main use of this account is to earn reward points by paying credit card bills via the IDFC debit card, and honestly, zero charges on most services is a big bonus.

Initially, the app didn’t show any Relationship Manager (RM), but now it does. I contacted the RM recently regarding upgrading my 10K variant to the Select variant (which requires a 3L MAB).

🔻 What the RM told me:

He’s suggesting approval from higher officers is needed to upgrade my existing 10K account to Select.

Alternatively, he suggested closing my 10K account and opening a new Select variant account, even with 1–2 lakh balance (not necessarily maintaining 3L MAB).

He also added that there won’t be any penalty or issue even if I don’t maintain MAB in the new Select account, as per his assurance.

❓ My Dilemma:

Should I request upgrade through RM’s higher officer route?

Or should I let them close this 10K account and open a fresh Select account?

Will there be any impact on account history, rewards, or debit card benefits if I close and reopen?

Is it worth taking the RM’s word that Select variant won’t enforce the 3L MAB?

Would love to hear your guidance or anyone with similar experience.
