Hey everyone,
Today 02/06/2024 I went to my nearest ICICI Bank to open a regular savings account, but the Branch Manager, told me that they are only opening 3-in-1 accounts (Savings + Demat + Trading). He outright refused to open a standard regular savings account and even denied giving any written refusal.
BOTH REGULAR SAVING ACCOUNT and 3 IN ONE account has 0 MAB , branch manager told itself, but he can't open my regular saving account, because he said it is currently suspended by bank. Only 3 in 1 account is openable right now.
I found this shocking because, as per RBI rules, banks cannot force customers to open bundled products like Demat/Trading accounts when they only want a savings account.
I wanted to raise a grievance through ICICI’s official complaint portal, but at Level 1 itself, it asks for an account or application number, which I obviously don’t have — because the account wasn’t allowed to be created in the first place.
Has anyone else faced something like this with ICICI or any other bank?
How did you escalate it successfully?
Would love to hear if emailing the Grievance Officers worked for you — or if I should directly go to the RBI Ombudsman.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or similar experiences!
