HSBC credit card approval

TF Buzz
On 1st week of May I applied for HSBC live+ credit card when an HSBC agent reached out to me. I directly told that I need HSBC live+ credit card and I am ok with all the t&cs associated with that card. I provided all the necessary details for example salary slip, address proof. The executive congratulated me saying I got an approval along with I also received an acknowledgement mail from HSBC having application number.

Afterwards, no response for 3,4 days. I tried to reach out to bank's customer care team, and they could not find any application associated with my phone number and date of birth. Strange!!

I made a complaint to HSBC from the form provided by HSBC in their official website. HSBC first level complaint form link

Then after few days, one guy from HSBC team reached out to me saying that they are scheduling the video kyc regarding my credit card application and eventually I received the video kyc link in my phone number and email Id.

I went through video kyc process and it went smoothly.
Afterwards, long pause. No feedback, nothing from HSBC so far.

Tried to reach out to HSBC several times, but every time either the telephonic robo or the customer care executive says that there's no recent credit card application associated with my details.

Once again, long pause, no feedback or email from HSBC side.
Last week, I sent an email (complaints.india@hsbc.co.in) to HSBC asking for an immediate response as early as possible but still have not received any response from HSBC only no-reply acknowledgement from the bank server.

Just want to know, what's your experience with HSBC credit card application process? Is there anyone faced same issue either with HSBC or some other bank?
I just want to know what's going on ? Either they have rejected the application or it's still in process. If it's rejected, can I ask them the reason?

I have tried several ways to get bank's feedback, so in this case, can I reach out to RBI Ombudsman. What's your suggestion?

Well Sadly, That is how HSBC works, there is no portal to track your application and the customer Service will have no clue, if your card is approved , you will receive a text message saying ' With 2 days , you will receive instructions to generate pin..." They will not even say it is approved....I applied online via CashKaro in the last week of April and received the card in about 5 days...You can go to RBI if HSBC is not giving you reason for rejection but here you don't even know if you are approved or rejected...There has been lots of instances where people have waited for months without communication and then got the card

I applied on 2nd April 2025. It was done as getting regular call from their agent. Submitted docs and vkyc on 3rd April.
Got acknowledgement no.
Nothing heard from them since.
Once called customer care. They said it's under process and will deliver in a week. But more than 15 days passed.
Applied for live+. Already hold platinum with 9L CL from 6 years

Last time during platinum which was offline also took 1m or so. Reason given by agent at that time I alrwdy have few cards with large limit so Bank is taking time for decision.
Now I have 10+ cards with cumulative limit of 1cr., so may be hsbc will take a year to decide.

So my understanding if you already have few cards with high cumulative limits they will take time.

I think if they get all the info as they need it and application flow proceeds as they want, card gets approved very quickly but if there is something that they need to verify/ Confirm they will take forever...

I have heard they flip the card on request albeit existing one shall cease to exist. Are you using platinum card regularly?

So I applied for the HSBC Live+ card late night on Monday, 12th May through the CashKaro link. My Aadhaar is from a non-serviceable area, so this time I used my rental and office address (last time I couldn’t go ahead with the application because of the Aadhaar PIN code issue).

Did the VKYC on 13th morning, and got an email on 14th (Wednesday) confirming it was successful. Even got a call from CashKaro to confirm the same. After that, there was total silence from HSBC — but I didn’t bother following up since I had read here that it’s pretty normal.

Then suddenly on 21st May, I got an SMS: “Dear Customer, you will receive a message within 2 days on how to generate your HSBC Card PIN via SMS.” So I figured the card was approved.

On Friday, 23rd May, I received the card — came with one of the highest limits I’ve got so far: ₹5.39L!

For context, I have 18 other credit cards (planning to close 7-8 of them soon), CIBIL score is 791, and close to 9 years of credit history with 100% on-time payments.

Other than the lack of communication, the whole process was actually pretty smooth.

May I know how did you follow up with HSBC ?
There's lack of communication. Currently, I am staying in Bangalore Urban so my current and office address are under serviceable area.
My CIBIL score is 820, 3 years old with 100% on-time payment.
I do not find any reason for them to reject my application. I just want a proper channel to communicate with them.

My experience with HSBC was very smooth. I applied online for Platinum Credit Card through Cashkaro when they were floating the Flash Sales with higher cashback in the last week of April 2025. Applied it on a Sunday, VKYC on Monday, 2 days no communication, suddenly received an SMS on Wednesday that card will be delivered in 2 days. Received a call from HSBC employee that my card has been approved. On Friday, the card was delivered. After a week, the Cashkaro rewards also triggered and last week the Cashkaro rewards also confirmed. It was pretty smooth but yes very opaque communication structure.

Even though I got the card without much hassle, but Overall I am not impressed with HSBC experience, may be my expectations was too high...No proper Communication channel, Very weird Awfully designed mobile app...Today I received an email informing that my statement is ready but it not include a statement in the email, nor did it mention any info about the due date, When I am trying to view the statement in the app, it throwing an error, Getting a statement should not be this difficult ! It's giving me PSU bank vibes... Surprisingly, I am more impressed with CashKaro, As how they kept me informed about Cashback status at every step till the time I got it!

I didn’t bother following up since I knew they don’t really communicate anything! they don’t even have a portal to check the card approval status.

BTW, is your CIBIL or Experian score 820?

Hah.. just yesterday I applied for hsbc platinum credit card. Received application number and completed vkyc as well. Received vkyc completed email.
Nothing after that. some one from 3rd party 'mymoneymantra' did this process for me.. and he is not replying either. He mentioned they handle credit card application process for HSBC.
Don't know how long this gonna take.
