Issuance Fee Waiver Offer
There is another offer running on the issuance of an HDFC ForexPlus card where the joining fees get waived if you load a minimum of 1,000 USD or equivalent value of another currency. Check this out.

My Experience

Since I have an international trip planned next month to Japan I tried to apply HDFC ForexPlus Card (multicurrency card) and load some 2,00,000 Yen to the card to compare the actual reward rate. While Google is showing the exchange rate of 2L Yen equal to 112150 INR, HDFC is charging me some 1,16,695 INR including loading charges of around 195. It equates to a direct loss of approximately 4.01% since HDFC has higher Forex rates. But with a 16.66% (5X) reward rate on my Diners Club Black credit card, this deal is too good since it would leave me a net reward rate of 12.65% which handsomely beats even the reward rates of Axis Olympus and Axis Reserve. This is a good offer especially if you hold Diners Black or above credit cards.

Loading in USD is proving to be much cheaper since only approximately 2% charge is being applied so if you want to get a card then go for Regalia Plus Forex card since although it can be loaded only in USD but can be used to pay in any currency worldwide since it has zero cross currency markup charges.

I took the HDFC Regalia Forex card and loaded Rs.90,000 last month. And now saw the statement where it says 12,020 reward points fro for forex card reload. I think the base reward for this 90,000 loading is missing right? Or am I missing something? (Serial Number 5 smartbuy is Amazon vouchers if I am not mistaken).

Or is the reward points properly credited?

Those are bonus points. Base points must be there along side the transaction.

Someone from HDFC mentioned that this campaign was massively helpful to them given
- Gave confirmed usd passive flows so thier treasury team could take positions knowing the side of the flow
- Balance sheet as of 31 March had more deposits which helped them in balance sheet ratios

So even without the reversal, they were very happy. With reversal, they are partying!

It was helpful to them but at a cost (genuine buyers)...Their profit will come at the cost of fools (Who bought blindly without applying their mind)...I am assuming 10% were genuine buyers and 90% were fools so HDFC bank had last laugh in this scheme.

Please elaborate how 90% were fool? Genuine buyers and others bought USD and got the bonus points. Those who thought they can outsmart HDFC by just taking back the money to bank account might reconsider it.

just check this thread and read all comments...You can find out, how many bought based on need and how many only for rewards

If someone didn't need it, have no option but to unload may be not today but after 1 year so rewards will be clawed back...

People gave false information of foreign travel to get rewards....

Biggest issue is for those who already used rewards...Now HDFC उनकी अच्छे से बैंड बजाएगा जैसे axis ने बजाई थी

Now that HDFC is reversing points, I don't think people will transfer the unused USD to bank account. IMO most of those who bought USD were DCB/Infinia holders who can possibly hold 1200-1300 USD for much longer period. People will even consider giving their card to friend relatives instead of transferring the money back to account
