I'm looking for an UPI app that has the following three features:

1. Ability to customize VPA (UPI ID)

2. Wallet to UPI payment

3. Ability to customize Wallet ID
(As the wallet ID in most of the apps contains the mobile number which I don't want to disclose.)

I have finalized a few options. Esteemed and knowledgeable members of Techofino, kindly advice which is the best:

1. Mobikwik
2. Slice
3. Fampay
4. Payzapp
5. Phonepe (Don't know whether it has wallet to UPI feature)

Kindly share your experience with these apps. Any transaction restrictions that you came to know after using these apps. Any letdowns that led you to switch to a different app.

Thanks in advance.

This is a tricky part. The primary account's VPA gets automatically assigned to the wallet after upgrading to full KYC. So in order to assign a custom VPA, your primary account should have a custom VPA first. Then you should upgrade to full KYC wallet. If you have already upgraded then there is way to change it.

PhonePe has weird policies.
I have customised VPA for my primary acc linked on phonepe, still the vpa alloted had my mobile number🫠

I'm kind of a noob at these things. I installed PhonePe on my mobile, but I haven't linked any bank account to UPI yet. What is the process to get a custom VPA for the wallet? I don’t mind what the VPA is—my only requirement is that it shouldn’t include my mobile number. I don’t want to share my number with unknown people.

Link one bank account. Create a custom VPA. Disable/delete the number VPA. Then upgrade wallet to full KYC.

I’ve linked my bank account and created a custom VPA @axl. then deleted the phone number-based VPA. Do I also need to activate @ibl and @ybl? For a wallet UPI, what bank name appears after creating a custom VPA? What kind of questions do they ask during video KYC? Is it similar to credit card KYC, where you have to show your PAN and sign on white paper? I don’t remember doing any video KYC for the Slice wallet—just uploaded a selfie photo, I think.

Do activate other handles. See my screenshot above for the wallet VPA. Yes you have to show your PAN card. No signature required.

Hey
So, is it possible to get only partial name with the wallet upi ? When I search for a UPI ID it shows the bank registered name "First Name Last Name" what I want is customized maybe only First Name or Last Name.

Why do I want that ?

1) Scammers
I'm getting calls on a daily basis from scammers that I just need to watch a YouTube video then like and share then they will send me rupees 150, so I want to give them wallet upi which when searched provides partial name so that I can use it to scam scammers if they are willing to send me money then I will take it and use it in wallet.

2) Subscriptions

Now a days lots of app have begun to ask for recurring subscription like JioSaavn or Netflix etc., I want to use it that case.

After extensive research I have found that only Slice meets the above criteria and has all the three features. And only Slice and Phonepe have to option to customize the VPA at the moment.
Is this still possible?
Which ones have Custome VPAs now? Or is it possible to create one with a slightly older App Version?
Been a while, but because my requirements are pretty much the same as yours @MadAxe, have you found one that worked over these last 6 months?

Custom VPA for Wallet
Wallet to UPI payments (P2P ideally, but if not P2P, atleast P2M across all QR codes)
Ability to fund wallet via cc/dc or even gift card.

PhonePe will fulfill 1st and 2nd.

Looking for a wallet UPI with the same requirements: custom VPA, ability to make P2P and P2M payments, and accept money through QR code. Please recommend a wallet UPI with these features. I'm currently using Slice, but I don't know how long it will work without upgrading to a savings account, which is why I'm looking for a new option.

Is there a step by step on how to do this? Total UPI Newbie.

PhonePe, Freecharge and BHIM. PhonePe has stopped custom VPAs for wallet. Use UPI Lite with the above apps instead.

I saw a video of BHIM UPI but the same "edit / change" does not show up on my iOS iPhone App.

PS: I have used UPI Lite via BHIM, first time last month. But wish to minimize giving my info to Scooter/ Auto buggers.

Just setup FreeCharge and seems to give some custom changes not sure how it shows on other side.

Are you saying UPI Lite via FreeCharge can OBFUSCATE and Privatize my INFO? To what degree?

No. UPI Lite will only allow you do pinless payments via UPI Lite Wallet. Regardless of the app, anyone can see your full name from their transactions history. You can only hide your full name while showing the payment receipt.
