Axis Ace Credit Card Annual Fee Waiver Query

I have an Axis Ace credit card which offers the first year free. The second-year annual fee is waived if you spend ₹2 lakh in a year. Unfortunately, I was only able to spend ₹1,60,000. I contacted customer care, and they informed me that the annual fee will be charged on September 25th, the statement generation date.

To avoid paying the fee, should I close the card on September 24th or in the month of August?

I am having airtel Mastercard and I was also in same situation so called CC the retention team lady told atleast spend 160000 before renewal then call us back we will try to refund the annual fee so call and check what reply you get

Closing Axis Ace simply because you find the annual fee of Rs 500 + GST too much? Not a good idea.
It is the market leader in the "Flat 1.5% offline cashback category" and the ~4% cashback on utility bills via GPay (inclusive of the new convenience fees) is quite handy. Even if you have Axis Airtel or use the Gyftr Amazon GC route (using SBI Cashback, HDFC Millennia or Infinia) it is nice to hold on to Ace. Too many devaluations have happened and will happen which means you keep as many options open as possible.
