Amex Plat Travel - No Retention Benefits Offered - July 2025

My Platnium Travel card has come up for renewal and accordingly Amex has charged the annual fee in tbr latest statement.

For the longest time I've seen people talk about the different kinds of offers they received when they called up Amex and ask for waiver.

So I called them up today and asked if they could give me an offer too. Do note I have Platinum and Gold charge cards besides the Travel card.

They flatly, although politely, refused to give me any offer. They say that such an offer is not available for my profile. I really do not want to pay the full fee, even though it's a very beneficial card, having just doled out almost 78k a few months ago for the charge card.

Has anybody else faced this? Were you able to talk with them and get them change their decision and give you an offer?

Would appreciate any inputs.

No, it looks like no one got any retention benefits since July. I got denied any benefits for my Gold Charge card renewed this month.

This is actually sad. My 3rd year in amex and fee is up for renewal next month.

Previous 2 years were basically free for me since I opted for spending based waivers both times since I anyways had to hit the 4L milestone.

Still a card to hold due to the strong consumer protection ( chargeback) in case of fraud.

Been holding the Gold Charge card for 12 years and I always got some kind of waiver (the most commonly being 50% discount) on the fees. I paid fully only two or three years mostly at the beginning because I didn't know there was a waiver option.
