Offer Fulfilled! Got cashbacks when I asked for cancellation

I called up Citi to cancel both the IndianOil and Rewards cards that I had. After listing to their reasons for not cancellation, such as points and rewards, they eventually gave Rs. 2000 for each card as cash back if I don't cancel now, and also waived off 2024's renewal fees.

That's a total of Rs. 5,000 saved in a 14-minute call. They promised that the Cash back will be credited in 10 days, and gave tracking numbers for each request.

The Citi Retention Team is going to have some terrible days starting today thanks to this post. Similar thing happened with SBI a few months back. Towards the end, people ended up getting their SBI CCs cancelled though their intention was only to threaten to cancel in lieu of rewards (points/cashback) and waiver!
