Disappointed with ICICI Bank – Privacy breach & poor support

TF Buzz
I wanted to share my recent experience with ICICI Bank which left me very disappointed, especially as a long-time customer.

A few weeks back, I applied for a loan through ICICI. Shockingly, within a day of my application, I started getting 30+ calls from other banks offering me personal loans. This clearly points towards a leak of my personal data during the loan application process.

I raised a complaint with ICICI, expecting a thorough investigation and a serious response. Instead, the grievance officer casually closed my complaint stating, “We never called you for a loan,” completely ignoring the actual issue I had raised about the data leak. It felt like they didn’t even bother to read my complaint properly.

On top of this, as a privilege banking customer, my relationship manager was removed without any notice or reason. When I reached out to customer care, I received nothing but generic replies with no resolution.

This whole experience has shaken my trust in ICICI Bank’s ability to safeguard customer information and provide quality support. Data privacy is a very serious matter, and the lack of accountability here is unacceptable.

Has anyone else faced similar issues with ICICI Bank? How did you handle it?

Same with HDFC Ergo Health insurance.
I start getting porting offers from multiple health insurance providers as soon as my renewal date arrives.
I always make sure to never give my data to sited like policybazar and all.
Never gave my number and details to any other health insurance provider except Ergo.

I complained to them but nothing happens and I kept getting porting spam calls for almost one month.

Same with HDFC. They have a WhatsApp group, whenever any lead generates for loans, they forward it. Post that, u will be spammed.
You are so right!!

To add further -
They also have ‘congratulations WhatsApp groups’ wherein if your loan is approved, they will all congratulate the executive under whom the loan will be disbursed. This messages are eventually shared internally & externally for boasting / flexing purposes.
This also leads to spam calls and texts from people saying - unse liye humse kyun nahi liye…. Humko bhi ek baar chance dijiye…. Hum rate of interest aur bhi kam kar dete…..
This is a never ending circle ⭕️

In India data privacy is a joke. I have to accept the fact that somewhere somebody is having my PAN card, Adhaar card, Bank account details. All they need is an OTP to drain my bank balance. I keep getting random calls from personal numbers claiming to be bank employees. They seem to have all my personal/financial details. When we apply for a financial product like CC/loans this data leaks even further. Read somewhere in an article that few bank employees sell our financial data for as low as Rs.50 per person. Although not all bank employees do this but even if one of them does this then it puts a dent in our trust with the bank.

It's no longer compulsory to link aadhaar with account

Yes but some banks create problems while CC/loan application if Adhaar and Pan are not linked. Even if we exclude Adhaar/Pan there is still other vulnerable data which often gets breached. I once got call from an unknown number from UP who knew that I have IDFC First bank CC, he knew the last 4 digits of my card and also knew my CL. It was an IVR call scam where u hear a robotic voice asking u to fill card details to increase credit limit. How can a person in other part of the country know all these details? Glad that RBI has some sense and has made OTP mandatory for all online card transactions. Had it been like the US where u dont need OTP then we would have faced fraud transactions everyday on our cards.

Your concerns are genuine.

However, you may -

1. Lock biometric data with aadhaar ( online )
2. Delink mobile number ( offline )
3. Share masked aadhaar card only

Not 100% fool proof , but certainly helps
