Don’t use fi debit card for international travel

I recently got Fi debit card so I could take out cash from ATM when travelling abroad. Was previously using Niyo before they shut down their Global card.

On my recent trip to Thailand, I tried to take out cash from the ATM. They marked it as suspicious and didn’t let the transaction go through. This is very normal and I was like I will contact their support and they will sort this out. I couldn’t reach their customer support. No one came on chat support, no one picked the calls, requested for callback no one called back. Wrote on twitter got an automated message after 2 days and bu that time it was too late and time to go back 🤦‍♂️

Luckily I keep some USD cash for emergencies, otherwise I would have had to use some other card and pay 3.5% markup.

I don’t recommend Fi money to anyone. If you can get a Niyo card, go for it. I never had any issues with them and their chat support was always available.

Travelers should avoid using their FI debit cards abroad. It may lead to high foreign transaction fees, limited access, or blocked payments. Instead, opt for a travel-friendly credit card or forex card to ensure smooth, secure, and cost-effective transactions during your trip. Plan smart, travel safe!

I used last year on Airport ATM in Bali... First transaction went smooth, second transaction was rejected due to security issues... Luckily I have another fi debit card as well

Travel friendly credit cards doesn't allow free/nominal charges ATM withdrawals.. Also Fi don't have foreign transaction fees

For me payments went thru smooth but standing instruction was set n since turned off intl txn when I returned the txn got failed and I replaced the dc itself

Decided not to use fi dc for intl going forward

I always suggest to have backup in-case if you have concerns like this. for someone who has Fi Money Infinite account, pls also have good amount of Foreign Currency as Cash when traveling.

In my case when i went to Thailand, i got Thai bhat from a Local Forex vendor for 25k THB and in addition to this i needed a card for online expenses like Travel Cabs/food delivery apps. For this i used Fi Money card, i maintain an Infinite account with 50k balance, pls maintain 50k until the Forex charges taken are reversed even if your Tour is completed which happens usually after 20-30 days. In-addition to this i had a backup of Indus Grande account Debit card which is 0% Forex and UN-limited ATM withdrawals.
