Delay in non UPI transaction SMS in BOB Savings account

I am using a Bank of Baroda (BOB) account for all my investment activities, including SIPs and stock investments. However, I am experiencing a delay of 30–45 minutes in receiving transactional SMS alerts from BOB.


This delay occurs for various non UPI transactions, such as:

• Transferring funds to anyone
• Transferring/Receiving funds to & for between Trading and Bank account.
• Receiving funds from others.

All these credit and debit alerts through sms are consistently delayed.

I have contacted BOB customer care, and they informed me that the issue is from the operator’s end. However, when I contacted my mobile operator, they said the issue is at the bank’s end, as I receive SMS alerts from other banks and for other transactions instantly.

Is this delay normal with BOB? If yes, could you please suggest another PSU bank where transactional SMS alerts are received instantly, without such delays?

This is a very common issue with BOB. I logged into net banking, but I received the message an hour later.

1 added advantage with Union is they also provide the closing balance in the sms.

2 Accounts I would suggest is:

• SB PRO: 10k Mab, a little hassle to open but almost everything free.
• USSA2 or above: If you can open a salary account with them, only then, 0 MAB, Again free everything

The case with BOB is, They will on their wish inform you in 1 to 2 hours after your money is deducted.

This kind of issue is quite common with BOB and other PSU banks. That said, consider yourself lucky that you're still receiving transactional SMSs, even if they're delayed by 30–40 minutes.

In my case, I’ve stopped getting most transactional SMSs from SBI since around September 2022. Out of every 10 transactions — whether UPI, debit card, netbanking, etc. — I receive, let's say, for two. It’s the same for my dad and mom’s numbers too. However, OTPs from SBI have always come through without fail or delay, so that part has never been a problem.

On the bright side, I do receive transactional emails from SBI for almost every transaction. These emails usually arrive instantly or within 5 minutes at most. However, they only send email alerts for debit card transactions and those done specifically via the YONO app; not for UPI and netbanking transactions.

With my bob saving account it’s minimal 45 minutes delay always
But yesterday faced the same with axis magnus card also very prompt are Hdfc always then follows by icici which never missed any sms or email alerts instantly

Can vouch for that, HDFC is top-notch in email/sms. Sometimes, it gets annoying as they spam alot of messages, but consistent 💯

Can agree. However, I've had instances wherein email alerts were not delivered at all for *some* transactions in particular days, while have had no issues with SMS. Their deliverability percentage is nonetheless impressive.

If you have DND activated, you should get no promotional SMS from them. If you're still getting promotional SMS, try to disable DND from your operator's app/website, and reactivate it back after 7 days. I have been getting no promotional or unsolicited SMS from HDFC ever since I reactivated my DND settings last year (Which was originally applied more than 4 years ago). Haven't blocked them either.

By "annoying," I meant that I get a lot of SMS and emails even the legit transactions 😂

For example, every morning I receive an SMS and email just for my account balance. Then, if I make 4–5 UPI transactions, I get 4 separate UPI SMSs and 4 more transaction emails.

On top of that, there are any 1–2 promotional messages or emails about loans or credit cards. So, now I end up with 6-7 SMS, and 7-8 emails in just few hours.

Their promotional spam is still quite low, so I haven't activated DND yet, but will consider it if they start spamming alot. Thanks for the heads up, though.

Haha, I get that. If you find it too annoying, just disable the InstaAlert for when the account balance changes, and you'll get sorted. Rather keep the Weekly Balance InstaAlert on.
