Voucher conundrum with Indulge

Finchamp!

TF Premier
VIP Lounge
PS: This read may interest those aspiring to get the IndusInd Indulge, or those looking to upgrade from Pinnacle to Indulge — while still holding on to their IndusInd Exclusive A/C at zero MAB.

So here’s what happened. Out of the blue, I was approached by the IndusInd credit card team with an offer: the Indulge credit card for a one-time joining fee of ₹1.5L + GST, in return for vouchers worth the same amount.

Now, whether this was their way of settling my long-running “upgrade dispute” (from Pinnacle to Indulge — long story!), or whether this offer has quietly made a comeback, I can’t say for sure. IndusInd stalwarts — would love for you to confirm!

That said, this post is not about the card itself. It’s about the vouchers that come with it — and more importantly, the strings attached. I couldn’t find a dedicated thread on this, so here we go.

The vouchers fall into four categories:

1. Postcard Hotel Vouchers
2. Vouchgram premium
3. Genesis vouchers
4. Mont blanc Vouchers

I’ll skip (1) and (4), since those are personal-preference categories. Personally, I’m not a fan:

Montblanc products do carry brand value in India (especially among doctors, senior lawyers, CAs), but to me a pen is just a pen.

Postcard Hotels, in my view, are overpriced. For example, at Postcard Hotel – Gir, a night goes for ~₹50K (tours extra). When I visited here earlier with family, I found it a relaxing stay, for sure, but I’ve had more indulgent experiences at similar or lower costs. Plus, I’m more of a mountain-backpacker type, happy with simple homestays in Uttarakhand or Himachal.

I won’t go into (3) viz. Genesis vouchers either, because most of the brands listed there are simply a subset of (2) viz. Vouchgram Premium. For reference, the Genesis voucher catalogue includes:

Armani Exchange| Bally| Bottega Veneta| Brooks Brothers| Canali| Coach| DC| Diesel|

Dune London| Emporio Armani| G-star Raw| Gas| Giorgio Armani| Hamleys| Hugo Boss| HunkeMoller| Jimmy Choo|

Kate Spade| Luxe Bridge| Michael Kors| Mother Care | Paul&shark| Paul Smith| Quicksilver| Replay| Satya Paul| scotch & Soda|

Steve Madden| Superdry| The White Crow|Thomas Pink Tumi| Villeroy & Boch.

Now here’s the catch — many of these (like Armani Exchange, Brooks Brothers, Coach, Diesel, Emporio Armani, G-Star RAW, GAS, Hamleys, Hugo Boss, Michael Kors, Mothercare, Paul Smith, Scotch & Soda, Steve Madden, and Superdry) are already covered under Vouchgram Premium. So unless you have a particular liking for the “Genesis-only” brands, you’re not really gaining anything new here. As for the rest, well… if they’re valuable to you, go ahead. Personally, I neither know them, nor do I wish to. In this case, ignorance is bliss!!

Now to the vouchgram vouchers. These were the vouchers that were shared with me on mail -

TATA CLiQ | MakeMyTrip Hotel e-Pay | MakeMyTrip Holiday e-Pay | Marks & Spencer || Sweet Bengal | Auric | Netmeds | Luxe Gift Card|EatSure | ORGANICINDIA | Nykaa | Disney+ Hotstar |Domino's Pizza Online | Love Beauty & Planet |The Man Company | Healthians | Assembly | Skullcandy || Fastrack | Luxe Gift Card - Diesel | Paul Smith-Luxe Gift Card | Superdry-Luxe Gift Card | Steve Madden- Luxe Gift Card | Scotch & Soda-Luxe Gift Card | Satya Paul-Luxe Gift Card | Replay-Luxe Gift Card | Mothercare-Luxe Gift Card|Michael Kors-Luxe Gift Card | Luxe gift card - Emporio Armani I Skinn | Hugo Boss-Luxe Gift Card | Hamleys-Luxe Gift Card | GAS-Luxe Gift Card | G-STAR-Luxe Gift Card Dune-Luxe Gift Card | Coach-Luxe Gift Card 1|Brooks Brothers -Luxe Gift Card |Armani Exchange-Luxe Gift Card | Beer Cafe | Skechers || Appreciate Subscription | OLACABS | Archies Gallery |FITPASS | Only | Jack& Jones | BIBA |Flipkart Supercoins | Fabindia | Daily Objects |Baskin Robbins | GIVA | Jockey | The Body Shop | ALDO || Wendy's | Oven Story | Faasos | The Good Bowl | Sweet Truth | BehrouzBiryani | Bata | Arrow | W |Puma | Taj Experiences | BATH & BODYWORKS ||CALLIT SPRING | SonyLIV | Woodland | William Penn | Veromoda | CHARLES & KEITH | Titan | PVR | Hidesign | Hush Puppies | Gini & Jony | Kama Ayurveda | Wonderchef |Wildcraft | Hammer | DocuBay | Beyoung | R&B | EaseMyTrip Hotels | EaseMyTrip Holiday | ITC Hotels |Cleartrip Hotel| BEVERLY HILLS POLO | INGLOT VICTORIA'S SECRET BEAUTY | VICTORIA'S SECRET|

Looks exhaustive, right? On paper, it gives the impression that all these vouchers are up for grabs. I even confirmed this with the CC team, and they assured me it was correct.

Except it isn’t!!

In reality, this list is just the sum total of what may appear under this category — at any given point, only a handful are actually available. For example, Flipkart Supercoins is listed, suggesting you could redeem Flipkart vouchers. But on the redemption portal, it was nothing more than a hyperlink to Supercoins T&Cs — no actual vouchers.

Another classic case was the OTA vouchers (MMT, EaseMyTrip, Cleartrip). The vouchers clearly said Hotel e-Pay or Holiday e-Pay, but the CC team kept insisting they could be used for flights. After some back and forth, it turned out exactly as written: hotels/holidays only — no flights. A mis-selling attempt, in my view.

Now, look at these vouchers -

Basically, they’ve tied up with Luxe Gift Card — and then inflated the list by separately naming every brand available on that portal. It’s like saying “Here’s a GYFTR voucher” and then padding the catalogue with all 250+ brands from Gyftr, just to overwhelm you. Scammy? I think so.

That said, I did spot Hamleys in there and thought of picking up some toys for my kid. But then I saw the Google rating of Luxe Gift Card…

1755693116137.webp

Read the Google reviews on Luxe Gift Card and you’ll likely lose all faith. It’s clearly a scam.

IndusInd has pulled the same stunt elsewhere too. Take Innovist (for cosmetics/personal care). On the voucher portal, Innovist is listed — but to pad the catalogue, they’ve also separately listed vouchers for Chemist at Play, Bare Anatomy, Sun Scoop, and Vinci. All of them redirect to the same Innovist website. Déjà vu.

Anyway, moving on. I thought, alright, let’s look at relatively safe brands like Tata Cliq or Giva. My cousin’s wedding is coming up, so I figured I’d gift her some jewellery and maybe put the rest into gold coins. That’s when the caveats began popping up:

  • Giva – Not applicable on Gold Jewellery, Coins, Articles, Utensils & Idols.
  • Surat Diamond Jewellery – Not valid on bullion/coins, certified solitaires, or already discounted products.
  • Tata CLiQ – Gift vouchers cannot be redeemed on bullion.

Anyhow, moving on further, once I realised that I cannot buy gold jewellery for my cousin from above jewellery-oriented portals (ironical!), I decided to look for other gifts such as a nice watch set on Tata Cliq. However, whenever I selected a watch set that was already available at a natural discount on the MRP (without applying any voucher) and proceeded to pay via CLiQ Cash, the product would instantly go out of stock. This has been happening consistently for the past three days—the item appears to be in stock, but the moment I choose Cliq Cash as the payment mode, it becomes “sold out.” Coincidence? I think not. What makes this worse is that Tata CLiQ’s own Terms & Conditions clearly state that Tata CLiQ Gift Vouchers can be clubbed with any one of the existing offers on the website.

The abovestated caveats and difficulties are just the beginning. Many vouchers are redeemable only at select stores — usually concentrated in a few metro cities. Others are capped to a limit (e.g., Bata vouchers up to only ₹20K). Some can’t be applied to discounted products. Worst of all, several brand T&Cs include a "catch-all clause": the store reserves the right to refuse vouchers on any product it simply doesn’t want them used for. To me, that’s absurd.

All things considered, it’s not just about IndusInd pushing obscure or irrelevant brands. The bigger issue is that, even within the “big name” brands, the fine print often compels you to spend on products you’d never otherwise buy.

At this point, I’m honestly tempted to just blow the whole amount on Domino’s pizza vouchers worth ₹1.5L. TF family pizza party at my place in Delhi! 🍕 Staying outside Delhi? No problem — I’ll send a cab over. After all, Ola vouchers are on the list too! 🚖.

between this and MMT Holiday EPay, 1.5L can workout if you have planned revenue stays at some hotels in the next 6 months.

Tata Cliq has some good products but I have seen tata cliq vouchers go for up to 30-50% off on the forum itself.

I will do this only now. I have a trip scheduled to Singapore in October. Earlier I was planning to use my Accor rewards from Atlas. Now I will use the MMT voucher 🙁

What is the validity of the voucher balance? is it 6 months?

on another note you can look into non accor properties as well, since MMT should have those

I haven't read the total as the more is of Vouchers.

My basic question is why 1.5L + GST for Indulge?? I got Pioneer Metal Heritage for 1L + GST.

@BVC bhai will let you know more

btw it was an agent I suppose.
Yes, an agent reached out. Decided to trust her as she dint insist on clicking any random clicks. All she said was that a mail would be sent from an official Indusind ID stating the exact upgrade proposal, to which I will have to give my consent, after which the card would be issued, and the fee for the same wold get charged in the first billing cycle.

My father is fully satisfied with HDFC Imperia. If I convince him for this offer, he’ll only indulge me provided I close it soon after my purpose is met 😅 — he doesn’t like maintaining multiple accounts. So here’s my question: under the Freedom Offer, if I open a joint account with my father and get a 0-MAB, non-downgrading Grande or Pioneer, will I then be able to open an add-on solo account, close the main joint account, and still continue with my solo account enjoying the same benefits? 😅

What you can do is
open papa account
fund it
get banking program
open your account
link in family banking
remove money from papa account
and both enjoy free benefits from 0 bal accounts.

request papa to let account run just if he wants he can withdraw all balance.
