For a long time, I was planning to use the Taj Voucher worth 10,000 that I received on completing 4L milestone spends with Amex Platinum Travel. Initially, I was planning to use it to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday in February but rather decided to use it for my Coimbatore trip instead.

The Hotel:

The hotel is situated at Race Course Road in Gopalapuram, one of the posh areas in Coimbatore and is close to nearby attractions. The hotel has a beautiful pool and a nice gym. The hotel also offered splendid views of the city.

The Room:

I booked a premium room which is considered to be in the middle of the pack. My room was on the 7th floor and offered a good view of the city. This is one of their better rooms, so I found the size to be decent and overall comfortable. The bathroom was quite spacious as well, though they did not have a tub. Lol, they also use inferior quality toiletries compared to sister chains under IHCL .

This was the view from my room.

The Food:

Opted for an all-inclusive plan as it was surprisingly cheaper than Modified American Plan (Breakfast+Any one out of Lunch/Dinner)

The food options for lunch and dinner were decent. There were several good options for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian lovers and a wide range of desserts. The chicken biryani was the best part. The breakfast was slightly below par but was still manageable.

Overall Experience:

The overall experience was good. The room service was sluggish at times given the high standards that IHCL sets. I personally feel that Vivanta significantly lags behind the Taj and Gateway portfolio of hotels.

Final Price Paid after using voucher: Rs. 620 😅

Is this the old taj residency? If so, I think it is a franchisee owned unit. Vivanta should be significantly above Gateway, right?
Ya. It is that Old Taj Residency. I can't comment over their positioning but my stays with Vivanta have been above average in most cases. My stays with Gateway at Madurai and Vizag have been better.
