Shocking! My Bank Shared My Personal Data Without Consent

Hey TFCians,

Recently, I came across a thread where one of our members shared that their HDFC Bank relationship details were disclosed to someone else without their consent.

I faced a very similar situation last year—this time with Yes Bank. A Yes Bank employee shared a photo of my relationship details from the Yes Genie portal (which is meant for internal use by Yes Bank staff only). This screenshot included sensitive personal information such as my mobile number, address, date of birth, PAN number, and Customer ID. Shockingly, this data was shared with one of my friends, who happened to be a friend of that Yes Bank employee.

The employee's name is ****(hidden for privacy reason) . He previously worked at Axis Bank and later joined Yes Bank as a Private Relationship Manager. He was assigned as my Burgundy RM when he was with Axis Bank. He had also mis-sold some credit cards using my name, and when I confronted him about it, he began engaging in these inappropriate actions.

Attached is the email complaint I had sent to Yes Bank.

However, the troubling part is that Yes Bank has still not informed me of any action taken against this employee. Despite multiple follow-ups, I’ve received no clarity. I even considered escalating the matter to the RBI Ombudsman, but honestly, I forgot to pursue it further.

"I cannot file a complaint with the RBI now, as the original complaint is over a year old, and as per the rules, complaints must be filed within one year. However, if anyone faces such an issue, they should definitely file a complaint with the RBI.

The problem isn’t with the system or the bank - it’s with the individuals involved. These employees often pull the same stunts at one bank and then move on to the next in the same locality.

To narrate an incident among the many -
In March 2023, a ‘not so close friend’ who had joined Yes Bank as BM, called me and asked me to help him out by opening an account and some deposits. I told him I don’t have funds but surprisingly he stated that I have xxxxxxx amount of funds lying in HDFC and he’s on his way to my place with an account opening form. I felt so frustrated but I had to open that goddamn account and book the FDs.
Abhi tak woh FDs mature nahi hua 😞

That same sweet guy recently joined 🪓 but I already have an account there so I’m saved 😝

Can you not reach out to Axis again as a fresh complaint and then complain to RBI?
Or try CVC? I don't think they have any such deadline.
But having dealt with known the regulators of India I won't be surprised if they also have put such "limits".

Try anyway, I'd say. Because this is literally "criminal", not denying banking services or so.

I disagree. This is the problem of the system and the bank. There is no accountability, there are no severe penalties. There are logging of such accesses and the customer can't choose to known when such an access was made. What you have described is exactly a system problem.
