On July 16, I opened two accounts just to get the Rupay Select Debit Card—one in Bank of Baroda and one in Central Bank of India.
Bank of Baroda account opening was smooth, everything was done online. I applied for the debit card on July 17, but till now no update. Can't even see anything related to the card in their app. Customer support is just useless—they keep saying "wait for 15 days then contact us."
Now, Central Bank of India—opened it online too. No issue while opening, but real headache started after that. I was told I need to visit the branch to activate their app. So I went to the branch, and believe me, it took me 1.5 hours just to get a token number.
After all that, I applied for the debit card through their app. Now here comes the fun part—my current and permanent addresses are different, and I had clearly selected my current address for card delivery. But due to some glitch in their app, PIN code of my permanent address showed up on both. So now the debit card is being sent to my permanent address where no one lives. 😭
I’m not even able to do any transactions. Called customer care and they said, “If you opened the account online, you need to do physical verification at the branch.”
Seriously? What’s the point of online account opening then?
Aur jab main branch gaya tha app activate karne, tab koi bata nahi sakta tha ki bhai tumko physical KYC bhi karni padegi?
Anyway, they asked for PAN card, Aadhaar card, and two passport-size photos. I took everything with me. After waiting one hour, they asked me to get photocopies too. I rushed outside, got them, came back—and guess what? Lunch break. Waited another hour, then they said, “The person who does KYC will now come tomorrow.”
Matlab hadd hoti hai. Gussa bhi aaraha tha par kuch keh bhi nahi sakta.
Next day I went again. This time they told me, “We have doubts that you actually live at your current address. When I get time, I’ll visit your home. Only after that we’ll activate your account.”
I asked, “When will you come?”
He said, “Jab time milega.”
I asked for his number, and he replied, “We don’t give our number to anyone.” Amazing.
Now it’s been 10 days—no debit card, no house verification, no update.
I called customer care again, explained the glitch. They straight-up said, “Sir, this is not a glitch. We always send cards to permanent address.”
I told them, “Nobody lives there, what now?” They said, “If the card is undelivered, it will get blocked. You’ll need to reissue it from the branch and also pay reissue charges.”
Wah bhai.
I already deposited ₹3,500 for account maintenance and debit card charges. Ab toh woh paise bhi stuck hai.
Ab honestly bolu toh, mujhe na woh paise chahiye, na woh card, na branch ke chakkar. I'm just done.

I also tried to open an account in Canara Bank, but couldn’t complete it. As soon as I selected different current and permanent addresses, pop-up came saying “open account at nearest branch.” 🤡
Tried Indian Bank and Bank of India too. Both asked for current address proof. I uploaded electricity bill, which is in my mother's name. They rejected it saying, “Your Aadhaar has your father’s name—how do we confirm this is your mother?”
Toh ab kya karu? Electricity, water bill, even house—sab maa ke naam pe hai.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Mujhe nahi laga tha Rupay Select card ke liye itna jhanjhat karna padega. Aur abhi tak mila bhi kuch nahi.
Garmi mein aur nahi jaana branch.
I already have accounts in HDFC, SBI, and Kotak—never had to visit a branch for anything.
Par pehli baar Central Bank of India branch gaya hoon— abb nahi jana 🤬
