Misbehavior and Discrimination at SBI Branch Manager

Bhai log, main kal (yesterday) SBI local branch gaya personal loan ke liye. Jab maine loan ka purpose bataya ki home construction ke liye chahiye, toh manager ne bola:

"Tum personal loan kyon le rahe ho? Main tumhe home loan dunga. Kal aa jana aur ghar ke documents le aana."

Maine usse bola ki hamare area mein 2004 ke baad municipality permission letter milna band ho gaya hai, sirf purane documents hi hain. Usne bola koi problem nahi, le aana.

Main aaj subah dobara gaya aur sab home documents dikhaye. Dekhne ke baad usne bola:

"Tumhare paas municipality permission letter nahi hai, isliye hum loan nahi de sakte."

Tab maine bola: "Thik hai, aap mujhe personal loan de do. Main ek salaried person hoon.
Meri salary ₹95,245 hai, CIBIL score 777 hai, 10 saal ka credit history hai, Form 16 hai, salary slips aur bank statement bhi dunga."

Tab manager ne gusse mein jawab diya:
"Humein private employee ki salary se koi lena dena nahi. Humein sirf government employee chahiye.
Private employee humare liye useless hain, unka koi guarantee nahi hota. Aaj kaam kar rahe hain, kal naukri chali jaayegi.
Private employee joker hote hain, hum unpe trust nahi karte."

Maine usse bola: "Aap yeh sab likh kar paper pe do."
Toh usne seedha mana kar diya aur bola:

"Private employees ko hum personal loan nahi dete."

Jab maine bola ki main aapki complaint higher authorities aur RBI mein dunga, toh usne jawab diya:

"Humein koi farak nahi padta. Jaake jo karna hai kar lo."

Isliye bade bade log default karke ja rahe yah log khamosh baith rahe hain

Why you are not going to the same bank in which you get your 95K salary every month n ask for a HL/PL ?

Or, go to those banks from which you must have already got CCs ?
Thanks for your reply me

My ₹95,000 salary has been credited to SBI for the past 6 months, but they didn’t upgrade it to a salary account. When I asked for a personal loan, they said it’s only given to employees of tie-up companies.

I also approached Union Bank same reason: “Your company is not tied up with us, so we can't give any type of loan.”

My original bank is HSBC (tie-up), but unfortunately HSBC is not serviceable in my current location, which is why I had to approach PSU banks.

So it’s not about choosing any random bank it’s about being forced to approach these banks due to circumstances.
But rejection is fine what hurt me most was the disrespect and insult they showed just because I work in the private sector.

The BM seems to be high on a power trip. Giving or not giving loan is one thing but deaming all private employees as "jokers" is totally unjustified. Definitely give a complain about this BM and make some noise in twitter too. I am sure once he gets the superiors' bamboo then it will humble him down. A few rotten apples like this BM is the reason why SBI is having a PR nightmare in improving its image regarding their poor customer service. It spoils the name of other hardworking sbi employees too. One of my relatives faced such demeanor from an Indian bank offer while applying for a loan. He escalated the complain till RBIO and that offer was berated by his AGM and transferred to a rural office.
Absolutely agree with you bhai

Loan approval or rejection should be based on profile, not prejudice. But calling private employees "jokers" and treating them like liabilities is pure arrogance and abuse of position.

I’m definitely going to escalate this not just for myself, but for every hardworking private employee who’s silently humiliated by people like this.

Thanks for sharing your relative’s case. That gives me more confidence to take this to the top — even RBI if needed.
One manager’s ego shouldn’t ruin the reputation of an entire bank and its many sincere employees.

I like this manager, jo baat dil mein hai wohin zubaan pe. No filter.
Haha, I like him too bhai.
Finally found a manager who's honest enough to say:
"We don’t care about your ₹95K salary, 777 CIBIL, or 10 years of work — you’re a private employee, so you're a joker to us."

Bas farak sirf itna hai -
Honesty without humanity = arrogance.
And power without respect = "small chair, big ego."

Let’s see how honest he stays when this "no filter talk" reaches his higher-ups. 😌

👍 more power to u bro. Dont let this BM get away easily on this one. U are earning much more than an average indian and have a good cibil score too. Despite that if u have to face this humiliation then I m afraid how that BM would behave with an average Indian guy who earns less than 50k and wants a PL for an emergency.

Start with complaint to SBI in this case, for proof ask them to seek video footage of bank.
(never try to record anything in bank)
Escalate it till pno than RBI. Most probably Manager will apologize to you though he might not offer the loan you seek.

I had similar experience once with Bob, employee was super rude.
I complaint to bob, instead of employee the BM of BOB called me and apologized and requested me that next time try to consult with him first before lodging complaint 🙂

Can understand the situation and your discomfort.

Story is with your Home Branch ?

Well, he is not complete SBI, Have you meet Home Loan team in SBI ?

2 years back, When I met SBI home loan team with someone, they shared the proper info, with complete set of documents/formalities required - Printed copy of check list ✅.

With SBI may be little more rounds and more of paper work, but worth the hassle with MaxGain and Low Rate for Home Construction.

It's your choice to put more of your energy into which- "Complaint or Solution or both."

Disc: He don't have SBI Account, (the person) with whom I went is a Pvt Sector employee, way less than your salary and experience.

Many Public Sector Banks don't give Personal Loans to Private Sector Employees , it's in their policy, like in Policy of Punjab and Sind Bank, they can give Personal Loan to Govt Employees or Private School Teachers who's salary accounts are with banks, that too after letter from school that dues will be withheld.

bhai zindagi mein aisi kya majboori hain ki SBI se hee loan chahiye.....SBI treat its customer like भेड़ बकरी....Bus, Train, ladki aur SBI के पीछे कभी मत भागो...Take loan from SBI, if are planning to default like Vijay Mallya and SBI will write off
Baba ab ap hi ka sahara hai , bechara pareshan hai ...
Aisa havan kijiye ki BM ghar aakar cheque dede .

Bhai, I appreciate your balanced view and yes, I agree solution is always the priority. But let me clarify why this case isn’t just about paperwork or process.

Yes, it happened at my home branch SBI Kaman Bazar.
The issue wasn’t only rejection. It was the language used by the branch manager. He didn’t just say "not eligible" — he insulted all private employees saying:

"Private employees are jokers. We don’t trust them. Go to RBI if you want, we don’t care."

So naturally, this isn't about loan formality alone — it's about respect and dignity.

I’m totally open to solutions even exploring SBI home loan team (as you said, MaxGain is a great product). But shouldn’t we also ensure accountability, so that the next private employee doesn’t face the same insult?

I believe in raising both:
Complaint – to fix the attitude, and
Solution – to meet my real purpose.

Thanks again bhai for your constructive reply — it genuinely helped me keep perspective. 🙏

Have you met anyone other than BM in the branch (H L/PL related) ?
Have you tried/ applied via NB/MB/Yono ?
Attached is the screenshot, showing in YONO App upto 35 Lakhs for PL, if it is of any help !

Yes, I’ve checked YONO and Net Banking multiple times — but since SBI never converted my account to a salary account, I always get this message:

"Personal Loans are only available to Salary Account holders. Your account is a normal savings account."

Even though ₹95K salary is credited monthly, they didn’t update it as a salary account.
I asked for conversion too, but they refused saying: “We only convert accounts for tie-up companies.”

So without salary account status, YONO doesn’t show any pre-approved offer — and branch also rejects loan just because I’m from a private company.

Still exploring options now. Appreciate your help bhai 🙌
